A perfect place to visit in the summer, the only problem is that everyone else will be visiting it then too; as soon as you arrive you can either walk along the river or get a boat cruise across the beautiful water which reflects the hanging trees and clear sunny skies above. Along the sides of the river are hundreds of different kinds of plants of all different sizes and colours and paths leading in different directions, giving something new to discover each time you visit. At the centre of the lake rests the most famous landmark in the city of Yangzhou, the Five pavilion bridge, it's bright colours look beautiful in the sunlight and is usually filled with other people coming to visit. As you explore the different parts of the lake you can see birds like swans or peacocks and groups of people taking the perfect photo. You see the traditional Chinese architecture, old buildings lost behind plant life and different paths to explore.

This was the most luxury and exciting tea experience I had with friends. We visited Yangzhou in April, the most beautiful time of the year. We brought tea and set up a little tea ceremony in the garden. It was an unforgettable experience!

Just spent two weeks in Yangzhou teaching, spent time down this street which is an ancient street, you will need to avoid the scooters which go up and down the street pipping their horns, you will need to get out of their way as they wont move for you! Went to some of the museum, old merchant houses on the street. Some lovely shops and coffee houses which serve Lattes, fab. We walked from one end to the other where it meets slender west lake, my friend, colleague and I had a great time once in a lifetime visit.

There are a number of bridges on slender west lake which you obviously have to cross, be careful, there are lots of steps some of which are rickety.

A wide open area that gives you a tranquil taste of traditional China, including a temple to buddha, statues of buddha, a tall pagoda and even temples and statues dedicated to gods of other religions. At the entrance stands two stone lions, a male and female and then you are free to explore a mixture of nature and civilisation. The temple itself is small but has three large golden buddha statues surrounded by incredible works of carved art and in front of the statues sit bowl of fruit and pillows for people to use when they kowtow to the statues. There is a large brazier which is used to burn incense and there are several large buildings with no glass or doors, just large holes allowing you to come and go whenever you like. There is a large lake with huge fish swimming through, you can get across by using the bridge or the more fun option of jumping across the stepping stones. As you explore the old architecture you'll find a large white buddha statue just beside the huge pagoda which itself has so many floors it seems like last forever and each one is decorated in beautiful artwork. The tower also gives you a great view of the surrounding area, once you reach the top it's almost as if you can see all of Yangzhou beneath you. Most amazing of all you'll find real Buddhist monks walking around, burning incense and singing songs in front of the statues, but strangely they drove around in a volkswagen car, a strange contrast to the ancient buildings.

We took a bicycle rickshaw and asked to go to Slender west lake but think there was a communication error as the rider took us to the ancient canal, not to worry we had a great experience with the rider taking lots of pictures of us and showing us a lovely metal mural on the canal walls, this gave a pictorial image of the work of the canal over the years, we would have missed this if it wasn't for him. We walked to slender west lake another day so didnt. miss anything, The people in china are so helpful and friendly.
