Today the walls of the Ming dynasty and the Tang palace walls hint at the Xi’an’s glorious past. Stare in awe at the Terracotta Army, 7,000 terracotta statues of Qin Bingmayong Bowuguan warriors and soldiers. Dating from 210 BCE, they were discovered in 1974 and are still being excavated. Don't miss the Shaanxi History Museum or a chance to heat up at former imperial bathing spot, Huaqing Hot Springs.

This tour was absolutely fabulous! Michael was an excellent companion who guided us through the food of Xi'an! Our favourites were the lamb BBQ and biang biang noodle - something I will never be able to recreate at home, sadly! I really enjoyed not only the sights, sounds and tastes, but his company. It was like going out with an old friend! Thank you Michael, for this wonderful tour!

This trip was an absolute highlight of my time in China. As a non-Chinese speaker, with a limited time to spend in Shaanxi and a strong love of food, it took away the uncertainty and difficulty that often comes with finding the best things to eat and to do off of the well-trod tourist path. The itinerary was a perfect balance of eating, sight-seeing and socialising, covering all of the best-known sights while also veering off into territory no non-local could find. And the food was THE BEST EVER, well-curated, plentiful, and expertly explained by our guide. Thanks @LostPlate.

The pearl tower is the staple of Shanghai. when you are in it, that means you cannot see it; if that makes sense. If you are only visiting for a short time, you do not have to go inside the tower or to the top. Also the dinner was 3 stars at max. The food was not that great, and the rotation speed of the restaurant was very slow for obvious reasons. This is one of those bookings you make just to say that you did it, not so much to enjoy for a long period of time. If I can redo it, I would choose not to eat here and pick another place in Shanghai to eat.

Having Lin tour us around Xi’an is probably the greatest highlight of our trip. We could tell she is passionate for both her city and her craft. She was patient with our need to start late and was sensitive to our interests and questions (We like learning about little details related to history.). All the sights were great, but meeting and finding a friend in Lin made them memorable.

Lily and Michael were so accommodating in this class! There aren’t too many tourists to Xi’an at the moment, so they invited me to their house. Michael met me in town and took me to the local market to buy ingredients, then we went to their house, where I learned to make biang biang noodles. They also prepared some other dishes (spinach noodles, century eggs, and a pork jelly dish) for me to try. They were so friendly, and I will definitely try to make the noodles again! I would definitely recommend to anyone coming to Xi’an who enjoys food!
