Overlook Mountain

Located in the Catskill park region, Overlook Mountain beckons nature lovers with its trails and campgrounds.

Our go to hike with our dog up Overlook Mountain. What would make it much better for novices and seniors would be some kind of places to sit along the long walk from the parking lot to the abandoned hotel, and also from the hotel to the fire tower at the top. Definitely need good shoes, either hiking shoes or something with support because of the surface. There are many stones and ruts on the way to the top. Once you get there, it's a perfect place to picnic and enjoy the views that span many, many miles.

Woodstock Artists Association & Museum

While walking the streets of Woodstock after visiting the library my wife and I happened upon the WAAM Museum. We were so impressed with this wonderful small museum that we spent about 1/2-hour just relaxing and browsing through the artwork of local artists. IF you have time to visit the WAAM Museum I hope you find it to be a worthwhile experience as we did.

SweetHeart Gallery

Reviewed By Jamie P - New York

My husband and I visit SweetHeart Gallery every time we visit Woodstock. There is always something different to look at in the shop and most of the items are really unique. They have some beautiful pieces of furniture and art. The shop is also in a really pretty part of Woodstock, which is nice. My only criticism is that some of the pieces do seem to be overpriced.

Note - I would not bring kids here (lots of fragile items in close quarters)

CandleStock is a classic store in Woodstock, NY.

This store has been open since 1970- when it first opened as a small one roomed candle shop, now it is a large building with many rooms full of every style, color, or funky candle you can dream of!

Since they opened, they have burnt a drip candle each day, creating a massive, room sized drip candle mountain! Even if you do not want to purchase candles in their store, you have to go in and see this drip candle mountain- its a historic icon of Woodstock. The mountain has hundreds of different colors, added things melted within it over the years, and is beautiful too see. Please keep this treasure going for many more years to come and do not touch this treasure.

The store itself has alot of Woodstock/hippie themed candles which are a great souvenir from Woodstock! They have a large selection of drip candles and bottles to purchase so you can create your own drip candle mountain at home! They also have beautiful candles and many cool items- you can find a gift for anyone in here!

So, while in Woodstock, stop in Candlestock, check out the beautiful drip candle mountain, buy some awesome candles and enjoy this shop!

Opus 40

This sculpture park was intended to house the works of the designer, but the setting itself became the artist's masterwork. It is possible to visit by appointment on non-open days.

You don't have to be a kid to enjoy this place. Its wonderful to just wander around, up and down and around. I went on a beautiful day and was unrushed. That is definitely the best way to visit. Don't go if you have three other things to do, because then you won't relax. And its a long twisty drive to get there.
Wear comfortable clothes and shoes.
I loved the stonework, and all the artwork around the edges.
Do watch the video in the office.

I grew up going to the library as a little girl and grew to love libraries, books, and reading. This library is WONDERFUL! The building is very pleasant. The staff is so friendly and helpful. There is a great children's section with cozy spots to sit, lots of children's books, and even a fish tank. They have a wonderful selection for adults also. They have new books in a special section for browsing, lots of DVDs, a nice collection of books. If you want a book you don't see, they can order it for you and when it comes you can get a phone call letting you know. We have watched lots of movies by getting them through the library. There are seven computers, which you can use to browse or print from. Kara, the director of the library, hosts the book club which you can join, read the book of the month, and come to the book club session to discuss. She makes yummy things to munch while we "discuss amongst ourselves."We also have guest speakers depending on the book. We have had the Woodstock tea lady give us samplings for Wuthering Heights, as well as a chocolate tasting for La Chocolat. From September to June there is a children's pre-school story hour at 10am on Monday. They have a children's summer reading programs with prizes. There are special classes which you can sign up for, including aromatherapy and mini-cooking classes. The knitting club meets Wednesdays. This library is really so much more than just your average library! Check it out!

I also stayed for the introduction to meditation which is nice for new-comers to meditation. There's also a lovely hiking trail right across the road-I didnt go there but it seemed very popular.
