When you think “adventure travel” you probably think of far-flung places like Belize and Alaska—not Wisconsin. But if you’re an outdoor adventurer, you’ll find plenty of places to explore in Wisconsin. A vacation in Wisconsin can put you close to the Kettle Moraine State Forest, which has excellent biking trails. Or choose Wisconsin’s Apostle Islands—kayakers will love exploring Lake Superior’s many caves and shipwrecks.
Packers fans don’t wear those cheese-wedge hats for nothing! Foodies will love tasting as many of Wisconsin’s artisanal cheeses as possible. Either drive from cheesemaker to cheesemaker, or choose a Wisconsin vacation in a town with a good farmers’ market—then the cheesemakers bring their wares to you. And what goes better with artisanal cheese than craft beer? In Milwaukee, visit the Lakefront and Sprecher Breweries for tours and tastings.
Wisconsin Dells is a classic family vacation destination. A vacation in Wisconsin Dells will put you close to all the excitement—you’ll have to tear the kids away from the theme parks, wave pools and water parks in Wisconsin Dells!
Lake Geneva boasts clean beaches, golf, and a small-town feel that definitely appeals to city dwellers—it’s a popular getaway for residents of Chicago.

This venue has a little bit for everyone....XC skiing, tubing, ice skating, snack bar. We loved the XC ski trails. Lots of starter runs for the family and enough more challenging trails for the better skiers. It was a little crowded near the chalet but once you escaped to any of the three major blue coded loops, it was great. This is a nice alternative to the Birkie Trail near Hayward. I’d highly recommend for those with youngsters or beginner skiers!

hoot! This is a 4,000 person party with an occasional human flying by! I had a blast at “the jumps”! This was my first ski-jump event—EVER! Boy, was I in for an experience! I took my son, his wife and their two grade-school-age girls. They were all amazed at all the things there was to do there! The kids had a money-spiked snow pile to paw through. They rode their sleds down a short hill. They also watched guys ski-jumping on the huge hill. There are horse-drawn sled rides there but we didn’t do that. (Maybe next year.) There is good food and drinks there of all types. It is not “gotcha”priced! Very reasonable. The people (volunteers) of Westby put on one whale of an event! If you haven’t gone before, the only question I have is, WHY? I hope to see YOU next year!

Our family has been visiting Granite Peak Skiing resort for the past 3 years now and can’t wait to go back. Just a 4 1/2 hour drive from Chicago it’s easy to to plan a last minute weekend outing. If you are looking for snow, it is the place to go all the way into April. The facility is clean with great staff and food. The rental equipment is top notch and the mountain is amazing. There are runs for all levels of skier. I would highly recommend this place for a fun family adventure.

Christie has done a great job of maximizing the trails on the terrain they have. Excellent diversity makes this a great family destination as everyone will find what they want, ski, board, or tubing. Trails include wood trails, opening sweeping trails, multiple terrain parks, beginner hills, and a staffed toddler/beginner area. The black diamond trails are short but plenty steep on the first portion. We really appreciate how the layout tends to separate the boarders from downhillers. The only low spot is the chalet is basic, small, and gets pretty tight inside.

The cabin was a great place to stay for the weekend. Everything was furnished in the cabin that we needed. Can’t wait to visit again in the summer months with our camper. The Lodge was great. So much here to offer. Snow tubing, water, playground for the kids, camping spots whether you are looking for a camper spot or a nice log cabin.

Ski and snowboard recreation area offers 17 runs, the longest of which is 2,600 feet, with a 300' vertical drop, 3 triple chairlifts, rope and cable tows. Tyrol Basin's terrain park was voted number 1 in the Midwest by the Transworld Snowboarding Magazine resort poll.
We met family at Tyrol to do the Tubing Hill from 11-3 on a cloudy Saturday. We had a GREAT experience. It wasn't crowded, the tubes were being sanitized, the management was supervising and kindly encouraging mask usage. Overall we had a great time going down the hill individually and as a family. We had 4 adults and 5 children ages 6 to 11. This is a great substitution if you don't want to ski. And the parking lot is located geographically close to the hill so it isn't a monster walk. Overall I was really impressed with the tubing experience. The only thing it lacked was a good food option. But we just brought snacks and then drove into Mt Horeb to eat after our session. Thank you Tyrol my kids are already asking to come back again!

Sat was very busy, the main lift had some long lines but moved fairly quickly, the lift was fast, we stayed mostly on the green and blue runs, there are plenty of runs to choose from, there were a few more lifts that did not have long lines but were a little less convenient for the slopes we wanted, there was a cafe and bar located higher up on the hill that you can ski to which is really convenient to stop get a burger and a beer. The main lodge area had several buildings with a Starbucks for coffee or hot cocoa, fireplaces to warm up to, we loved the hot apple cider with liquor, very good! Sat was busy but Sunday was not, no lines at the lift at all, which was really nice. Great place to ski, better than Devils head.

Even though we are here during the pandemic, we are still able to enjoy our vacation. Additional pictures were loaded on the main website for the resort. This is the place to be during the winter as they have ski hills and a tubing hill on site.
