Historic Hope Plantation

What an excellent tour. We went by there for a tour on a Sunday morning and had a great 2.5 hr tour with our guide Jess who was so knowledgeable about all the history of the property and all the people who lived there. We toured both the main house and the other buildings. Have been to many historic period buildings of this era (eg Williamsburg, Old Salem, Edenton) and this place ranks right up there in terms of adhering to period and location correct pieces. Well worth paying a visit on your way to Edenton or the Outerbanks. I would plan for 2-3 hrs though to allow sufficient time to see it all with the guided tour. They are privately funded and the tour was well worth the $15 per person ticket.

Livemon Park & Mini Zoo

Cool place to go to see animals for free. Would be a great place to take the grandkids. They have a lot of different animals. Including a raccoon. Look towards the wetlands for him. Although you cannot get but so close to the animals I’d say it’s pretty entertaining for a free small zoo. You can take a walk through the wetlands on a wooden walkway. The bathrooms were very cool and also pretty clean for an outdoor bathroom. Saw lots of cute little animals especially the little pig that enjoyed eating the roots of the trees. Mama was in the little barn house provided for her. They have goats, miniature donkeys and ponies, a zebra, roosters, big turkey, llamas, rams, bisons, cows, just to name a few.
