This popular resort town is located just a mile from Windermere Lake, the largest lake in Europe and alleged home of more than one peculiar sea creature. If we've scared you out of skiing, boating and fishing in Windermere Lake, there's always horseback riding and golf. Or you can explore the lake from the safety of a ferryboat, which regularly takes passengers from Hawkshead to Bownes.

We are a small, family run outdoor company. We specialise in delivering the highest quality ghyll scrambling and canyoning adventures and we have a true passion for what we do. We provide you with the best canyoning wetsuits and equipment on the market. No-one has thicker or warmer wetsuits than us. Our groups are small and intimate to maximise your experience and we are one of the few companies that have "canyoning specific" qualifications. This means you will be in safe hands with a company that truly understands the hydrology hazards and techniques needed within the canyoning environment. We aim to give you the type of memories that will last forever. Minimum age is 12 years and we take out couples, small groups of friends & families.

Providing Clay Pigeon Shooting, Archery and Axe throwing for beginners, intermediate and more experienced shooters all over the Lake District, with our main site between Windermere and Kendal. Fantastic scenic setting with a log burner if its cold and cover if its raining. With locally sourced food that is smoked on site it completes the perfect shooting site.
We had a lovely weekend stay at the Wild Boar Inn in September and had pre-booked for a mix of Clay Shooting, Archery and Axe-throwing for our group of adults. Unfortunately due to one of Mike's instructors having a serious road traffic accident immediately prior to our arrival Mike had to cancel the archery element. [Steve, glad to hear that you're on the mend and hope you get back to full fitness soon.] Those who were going to do archery were offered a transfer across to the other activities by Mike, but they chose to have a long-lie and a refund instead. What a bad decision, because they missed-out on a fantastic, fun-filled brilliant morning where the rest of us had a great time shooting and throwing axes. Mike is a superb natural instructor/coach with a super friendly encouraging style that helped every member of our group of 6 adults to actually hit more clays than we missed: the man is a genius. He guarantees that he can teach anyone to hit a clay during his session - and the man was true to his word - no matter how inept we all thought we were and how inexperienced and un-skilled we thought we were, Mike was able to draw out the best in us and help us achieve our goals. Everyone in our group came away enthusing about his lovely friendly personality, his skills in regards to clay shooting and axe-throwing and how his professionalism shone tnrough in every way that he inter-acted with us. From a personal perspective I could not believe how easily he managed to get me - a 100% right-handed person who just happens to have a significant left eye dominance - to shoot, and HIT, the clays left-handed, when I was absolutely useless shooting right-handed. I'll say it again, the man is a genius, with such a lovely personality. We can also thoroughly recommend the Axe Throwing from the list of events that Mike offers. We progressed from Angel Axes through to the bigger and heavier Hand Axes and everything was done so brilliantly and with such good humour that any initial safely fears that some members of our party had at the start were gone very quickly. We had a marvellous fun-filled morning and really enjoyed everything that Mike offered in the way of advice and positive encouragement and can only say that he is a marvellous coach/instructor with a range of events that will appeal to everyone. I fully recommend Mike's company for clay shooting and for axe-throwing, and to be honest, if his other activities [which unfortunately we were not able to enjoy on the day] are handled similarly then I'm sure everyone will enjoy those too. A fantastic day's fun - to be recommended for all.........

The gallery is now open. Thuline is a professional artist specialising in animal portraits, mainly farm animals and pet portrait commissions. In her studio-gallery she sells originals, prints and gifts with her animals on (cushions, aprons, coasters….). She runs small workshops, up to 6 people. These can be for individuals, families, businesses, friends... On location, she can work with bigger groups. These can be organised on very short notice. Or you can come and watch her paint. Thuline does demonstrations too. Thuline also exhibits originals and limited edition prints all over the UK and Ireland. There is a permanent showcase of her work in the Jumbleroom, Grasmere. “I observe animals, their shapes, gestures and mannerisms and in developing my ideas, I take them quite often out of their context. I like using bold colours.” Thuline takes online orders too.
This is an update of my earlier review, which I've left in its entirety below. Having done an 'animal' workshop (see below), and having loved it, I decided to do an online (due to Covid) day with Thuline doing a landscape course. Apart from the usual Zoom glitches, it was fantastic. I'm really pleased with the result so far and had a great day. Thuline has even given me some advice as to how to make it even better - I'm just having a breather before I start!
