Alligator Gorge

Reviewed By 538fionag - Adelaide, Australia

When most people think of the Flinders ranges they think of Wilpena Pound. Don't dismiss the southern ranges. Alligator gorge is beautiful; with a good assortment of walks suitable for a diverse range of fitness levels. Plenty of wildlife, kangaroos, emus, lizards to entertain along the way. There are several accommodation options in the park or you can stay at Wilmington and take a short drive to the national park. My only criticism is that the walks are not as well signposted as may other national parks. The southern Flinders are'nt as well known as the northern section but they are still good - particularly if you are on a budget

Wilmington toy museum

It's a $5 entry and worth every cent. David, the owner, has been collecting toys for 50+ years and it's impressive. Amazing collection of matchbox cars, board games, mechano, and other bits and pieces. The most impressive part of his collection is the Land Rover Defender both real size (out the front) and over a 1000 matchbox size, remote control and Lego..... So cool.

Sansouci Puppet Museum

Definitely worth the stop! You walk in to a shop of puppets and thrift items. A gold coin donation allows you to enter a puppet display that is out of this world!! Brian doss some puppetry to entertain the kids which is amazingly entertaining... definitely recommend!

Excellent view across the top of the gulf. 7 km of good dirt road. Ok for a normal car but if really wet best wait because there are a couple of spot that would be potentially a bog for a 2wd. Not much else there. Good for picnic.
