This past weekend, my wife and I spend one of the most enjoyable weekends in Williamsburg. We had the pleasure of staying at the Wedmore Place (see separate review) on the grounds of the Williamsburg Winery. Our room rate came with two passes to tour the winery and a tasting. After checking in, we were greeted by our tour guide. He was very knowledgeable of the history of the winery and the various fermentation processes. Our tasting was in a private room. The wine tastes were mostly whites, with a few reds, a rose and a choice of dessert wine. The rose was so good, we purchased a bottle. Being from Richmond, my wife and I spend allot of time in Williamsburg. We would recommend the winery to anyone who enjoys good wine and are looking for a relaxing afternoon. We will definitely be back.

We enjoyed a couple beers (Superb IPA, Thaw Amber Ale) from this local brewery. Both were superbly delicious. They have 16 beers on tap! We also had a hot doughy pretzel with some type of mustard sauce which was quite good. I wish we could have taken the tour, but we missed the last one. Smoking/vaping is prohibited (so we can all better enjoy the beer!). We were there on a Friday afternoon (4PM), and there was a great mix of people...not too crowded. It's definitely a fun atmosphere with so many choices.

We got a free tasting at the Meadery from staying at Wedmore Place. The tastings were indoors - but they have two tasting rooms which are scheduled in alternating time slots and have socially distanced tables. The staff were friendly and accommodating and the tasting was something unique for us - it included both an array of honeys with clearly unique flavors and a variety of meads made from them - along with explanations. The place has a small shop so you can purchase products you enjoyed from the tasting. We brought home both stylish bottles of mead and honeys, which would make a unique gift.

Really enjoyed my Saturday afternoon at the Virginia Beer Company with my husband and my 8 month old son. On this particular day, they partnered with the Virginia Blue Crab Company for blue crabs. We sat outside at a picnic table and ate blue crabs while drinking a flight of beer. I’m not much of a drinker, but I really enjoyed their light beers! Because I had my son with me, I was very happy to see they had a family restroom with a baby changing table.

We really enjoyed our visit! It was a low key place, loved the “secret” bookcase door to the tasting room, and the hospitable, friendly environment. Indoor and outdoor spaces, and excellent social distancing in place. We tried both tasting flights. The rye whiskeys were our favorites, but they were all great! Definitely ask to taste their new bourbon - it’s not on the menu yet.
