This review is for my trip to Iceland in February 2020 when I traveled with Gummi for about 3 days total. I spent so many hours researching guides before my trip I'll give the quick basics for those who are manically scrolling reviews like I once did. I was a solo female traveler and was tasked with getting to the small town of Bildulalur, located in the west fjords, by a specific day and time. Because this was the dead of winter, many roads were closed and almost every tour company refused to take me. One offered to do it for the price of 10,000 USD. I laughed. And then cried. I didn't think I'd be able to fulfill this weird promise I had made to get to this town. However, in hindsight, this was a blessing because it's what led me to find Gummi. With the main task being to get to Bildudalur, I had a lot of questions for Gummi up top and a lot of "suggestions" for the best way to travel. From thoughts on hotels to thoughts on sight-seeing (I had no idea just how freaking cold and shut down a lot of places were at this time). He was so patient with me over email and kindly explained what was realistically available. He also gently laid out that the best option was for me to fly to Isafjordur and we'd then spend the night at his cabin half way through the trip. It makes me laugh now at how nervous I was by this idea. It's what comes with traveling solo as a woman, I guess. But the moment I met Gummi at the airport all nerves went away. He is gentle and hilarious and has a calm assuring nature that perpetually makes you feel taken care of. Gummi had packed lots of food for us and as we made our way to Bildudalur, he gave a tour of the west fjords that only a native to that area could provide. Radio would go in and out and there was spotty service for my cell phone but it didn't matter one bit because I don't think we ever stopped talking the entire trip. Anytime I wanted a photo we'd stop. And sometimes he'd sense I felt bad asking to pull over and would just do it on his own, knowing it was worth it. He took us to a couple quiet remote hot springs that make you feel instantly connected to the land. He also helped me make a list of to-do's on my trip and did his best to make them happen. From booking me a tour of a glacier to convincing a shop owner to open their doors early so I could buy a wool sweater. His cabin is well constructed and has the perfect homey feel. Gummi cooked us dinner and I'm pretty sure I had no fewer than 67 pieces of fish and about 200 potatoes. There was always plenty of food and no judgment for this hungry gal! We watched the foxes outside eat some of fish scraps before bed and I got to fall asleep to the snowy winds whistling outside the window. The drive wasn't always the smoothest and I now know why so many tours rejected the idea of taking those icy roads on but I can say I've never felt safer. Gummi's vehicle is made for off road driving and I could always tell he had our safety as the number one priority. I got to Bildudalur on exactly my birthday (which was the day and time I needed to be there) and we even managed to put on proper birthday hats and celebrate on top of a freezing mountain on the way. Such a special kick off to my 35th year. Gummi and I planned to part ways for a few days but later that night when I was unpacking my things in Bildudalur I got a call on my phone to look outside to see Northern Lights. I sadly missed them but was touched by Gummi's desire to make my trip as magical as possible. He really goes out of his way for every client. Later in the week we met up in Reykjavik and we went to a waterfall and glacier "nearish" the city. We tried hunting for the northern lights but they did not show their face that night. While we were both disappointed by this, I actually see it was the perfect ending to the trip. It gives me a reason to return to Iceland, a country I'm now so fond of... and all because of this magical trip with Gummi.

This journey will take us from Isafjordur through an underground tunnel to Onundarfjordur and to the beautiful village Þingeyri. Then we‘ll make our way up the steep and narrow Hrafnseyrarheidi Heath road to Arnarfjordur where the thunderous waterfall Dynjandi awaits us. We will stop there for aprox one hour so you can hike up to the base of this majestic waterfall. The waterfall is clearly visible from the parking lot so you don’t need to hike if you don’t want to. On our way back we will stop at Hrafnseyri cafe where you can buy coffee and cakes if you are interested and then drive by the farm Audkula, where there is a large colony of Eider Ducks during the breeding season. Who knows, maybe we will see King Eider in the nesting area. It’s very common to see Humpback whales on the fjord during the summer months.

Highly recommend this tour if you planning to visit Iceland. Jens, one of the owner of this company is an understanding, responsible, professional and knowledgeable guide. We have joined the aurora and glacier tour in Feb 2020 and it was an unforgettable experience in my life. Just 3 of us in the group, like engaged a private tour. Jens will share the history of Iceland throughout the journey. Sometimes, he might be a bit quiet, but he will be able to answer every question and share the tips with you. Breakfast and dinner were included in the tour and he will stop along the way in town for us to grab the lunch. Breakfast is in buffet style and dinner prepared by the Farmhouse/Guesthouse was really really delicious! The Farm stay and guesthouse were cozy with nice view. The tour is reasonably priced and worth every penny.
