Best spot in Broome for a relaxed evening watching the sunset. They even had Hahn Ultra Crisp gluten free beer. Staff very friendly. Only open Fri, Sat and Sunday late arvo evening but with the view and sunset its the best time. A food truck comes to site for food, and this varies. Go have a swim then come up a for a drink. We found this by accident walking around Cable Beach, so we made sure we went back for sunset. This is the Broome Surf Life Saving Club.

My friend booked us here at 8pm after we had dinner elsewhere. We were greeted at the door and advised to sign the visitors book and that it was table service & to only get up to go the toilet. I really appreciate the excellent communication between the staff and the patrons. It made me feel very confident that they are doing the right thing. This is mostly a rum cocktail bar but you can still order your standard drinks. I had a wine and a Singapore sling. The Singapore sling was excellent. Great flavour and good alcohol content (not weak). This is a small bar so I recommend you book ahead. Although it’s a small distance away from the city/train station don’t let that deter you. You will enjoy the walk along the terrace as all the city’s lights are on full display for you to take photos and enjoy.

We visited the Kookynie Hotel recently and wow, we were so surprised. This place is bloody marvellous. It is really old and has so much history that the bar area is packed with memorabilia from many years gone by. The lady behind the bar is nearly 90 years old and believe me, she could out-work many much younger than her. My wife struck up a conversation with her whilst I wondered around the hotel in awe of the condition of all the furnishings and old pictures hanging on the walls. Yeah, we could have stayed longer just to hear Margaret chat about her life at Kookynie. On leaving, the resident horse, yes, a real horse, was standing outside the front door. Can you believe that? This horse was huge but just wanted a bit of a rub and some words whispered in its ear. It is just over a 90-minute drive from Kalgoorlie with some interesting scenery along the journey. Accommodation is available but you will need to book in advance as at times, it does get busy. (Especially on the 1st of April so we were told). Do yourself a favour. If you are in the goldfields area, get yourself to Kookynie. The drinks are cold and from what we were told, the chef has a bit of talent as well. You won’t be disappointed.

Recommended by a friend we booked a table for 3 and to have the cheese and meat platter. Our table was a high bar stall table overlooking the garden which was nice and rustic. We ordered a paddle of the mixed cider and a huge platter to share between 3. We are not really cider people but found the experience really enjoyable and thoroughly enjoyed the cheese and meat platter which was more than enough for 3 people. A really nice place to visit.

Driving past, Liberte doesn’t look like much, but as soon as you walk inside, you get transported to another era. With a huge range of traditional and funky cocktails, lots of local beers and wines, it’s not a place to miss. I can’t go past the food though, Head Chef Amy Hamilton has outdone herself with this tantalising Australian/French/Viet fusion menu. Props to her team as well, both front and back. We had the potato and fennel dumplings, wok fried seasonal greens, Brussels sprouts with sriracha, honey and lime, AMAZING crispy chicken bao, and garlic bread gougeres (choux pastry and cheese balls). I can definitely see why Liberté got written up in 2018 Gourmet Traveller. The price was reasonable- for what we paid, it was near perfection in all bases- service, food quality and quantity, booze and atmosphere.
