Since the early 1900s, West Yellowstone has provided a tourist-friendly gateway to the geysers of Yellowstone National Park and its resident bison, bears and elk. This Rocky Mountain enclave in southwestern Montana is an outdoor enthusiast's dream, offering snowmobiling, cross-country skiing and dog sledding in winter; trout fishing in fall; birding, biking and hiking in spring; and summer parades and rodeos. In-town eateries and attractions are an easy stroll from local lodging.

After nearly fifty years of the "Finest in Family Entertainment," the Playmill continues the tradition with three popular hits. Join us for a night of great theatre in our rustic home in beautiful West Yellowstone, Montana, gateway to Yellowstone.
We hadn't been in a few years but bought tickets on a friend's recommendation. We saw Singing in the Rain and is was wonderful. Young and enthusiastic actors with tons of talent kept up the action for 2 hours. It is a very small venue so every seat is good and you get to see all the actors expressions. I plan to go more often now!

Yellowstone Big Gun Fun is an indoor shooting range located at the West Entrance of Yellowstone National Park. We offer rentals of machine guns, handguns, and rifles to provide our customers and their entire families with a safe and fun activity they'll remember for their entire lives.
I've been shooting for about 6 months, and own a few handguns, a shotgun, and rifle. I have never fired a fully automatic weapon before, and couldn't pass up the chance to try the AK47. Fantastic! The gentleman that showed me the basics was really great and I didn't feel uncomfortable at any time. Tried a few shots in semi auto, then went over to full auto. That's where the fun is at! Wish I had the time and money to shoot all of them, but I think I'll be back one more time before I leave later this week. Kudos to a really cool experience.

See LIVE grizzlies and wolves at this AZA Accredited, Not-for-Profit Wildlife Park and Educational Facility. Activities include: Keeper Kid's (hide food for the bears), live Bird-of-Prey Exhibits, view two separate wolf packs from the Naturalist Cabin, Wolf Enrichment, Safety in Bear Country Programs, Yellowstone Park Ranger Talks, a World-Class Bear museum, intriguing films and presentations. Open 365 days (GWDC bears DO NOT hibernate). Admission is good for two consecutive days. One block from Yellowstone National Park.
The center was beautiful. The animals were all well fed and the staff was knowledgeable. The wolves were white as snow and there was a good quantity of that on the ground. I would highly recommend this for families.

Site of the largest earthquake in Montana's history.
Knowing the history it is worth seeing. But the feeling that I get I do not want to spend a long time at the point of interest. I always take friends and family to see it.

A hilltop area with a perfect setting for a wedding.
This is a pretty drive during the summer months. It has lots of flowers and vegetation that are interesting to see if you like to identify plants (which I do). In the winter, it is a great place to take your snowmobile up. There are great views and it is just a nice place to get away from lots of people.

Museum on the history of transportation through Yellowstone National Park opened seasonally from May to October. Housed in the original 1909 Union Pacific Railroad Depot, the Yellowstone Historic Center Museum features permanent and temporary collections telling the story of travel to Yellowstone and the town of West Yellowstone. Free walking tours of the historic center are available in the evenings during summer.
This museum is well laid out and informative. Yellowstone Park early history and artifacts are explained well. Museum is roomy and easy to find. The building itself is part of early Yellowstone history. All in all a visit here is like stepping back in time.

Back Country Adventures has really stepped up and filled a void created when Xanterra stopped offering winter shuttle service to Old Faithful from West Yellowstone. People with reservations to stay at Old Faithful have to find their own transportation into the park from West Yellowstone, and Back Country Adventures is one of the few businesses that offer this service. Their prices are THE BEST, and the drivers/guides are friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful. They also have this knack for finding wildlife on the trip in--or out. I would book my shuttle with them again without hesitation!

As we traveled along the shores of the lake I was fascinated by the trees apparently submerged by the lake and when we got to the visitors center the explanation became clear. The lake was created as the result of an enormous earth quake and if it were not for the actions of the corp of engineers in creating a spillway and lowering the level of water the result could have been much worse as the water backing up was compromising the stability of a dam upstream.Well worth a visit to stand in awe at the forces of nature.
