Truth be told, I'm not much into music. Not anymore. I once had a large record collection. But we sold the record player. I don't listen to music on the radio. In fact, for the last several years, the only time I listen to music is while traveling in the car. I have an extensive collection of CDs and DVDs and old cassette tapes...Sinatra, Bennett, Mantovani, Mancini, Gershwin, Victory at Sea, Gettysburg, Rhapsody in Blue, Hollywood theme songs. The record stores I once frequented to find oldies but goodies have gone out of business. Then I discovered Dusty Groove. Located at 1120 North Ashland Avenue, not far from my downtown Chicago home, it was founded in 1996 by University of Chicago alumni Rick Wojcik and J.P. Schauer as an online-only record store. But its website dustygroove.com quickly attracted interest from global record collectors and the business expanded to a Wicker Park loft and an extensive retail storefront warehouse with 30,000 items in inventory, including new and vintage jazz, funk, soul, hip-hop, world, rare, collectible and obscure vinyl records and CDs. It is consistently regarded as one of the best record stores in Chicago and has been recognized as one of the best record stores in the United States by Rolling Stone, Time, The Wall Street Journal and Readers Digest. Did I mention I even have a CD by Roy Orbison to keep me humming while driving along I-75 en route to Florida?
