We booked this trip in advance and had a fantastic time! The owners Neil and Karen provided us with the essentials for our ride while our lovely guide Lauren took care of our horses for us. As it was only the second time on a horse for me, I was given the very even-tempered mare Jupiter and Lauren taught me the basics. Then we were off! Our horse trek took us through the stunning landscape of the Paparoa National Park with several river crossings and a welcomed tea break for us while our horses took the chance to graze or doze. During the entire ride Lauren was great to chat with, she was full of information about the area and time just flew by. Our ride ended at the pancake rocks on the beach where my wife and Lauren took the chance to race each other (it’s only for the experienced riders) which was great fun to watch! We can only recommend this experience for everyone and we hope to return soon! Thanks again!

Garth Wilson Jade

On the road to Shantytown, just 600 metres from the main road, you will find Garth Wilson's Jade studio and gallery. With a large parking and turning area you can come in and see Garth carving New Zealand pounamu (jade). Garth is a descendant of the Ngati Mahaki and Ngati Waewae tribes who were the original pounamu traders in New Zealand. This allows Garth and his family customary rights to go onto West Coast mountain sides and rivers to collect the pounamu (jade) themselves. Garth hand draws the designs and carves all sculptures, pendants and jewellery from New Zealand stone. Come in and handle some of the best New Zealand pounamu, find out about Garth's family history with the Pounamu, see some of our artefacts and discover the meanings and stories behind the Maori designs. Garth Wilson Jade - for that special piece!

Reviewed By faerygirl101 - Christchurch, New Zealand

Visiting Garth and Jo at the studio is a wonderful experience - you hear about the journey of the pieces, from how Garth and his family search the rivers for the raw stone, how he carries them back and works on them for months, first crudely then intricately to make the most beautiful pounamu we have ever seen. We commissioned a piece for a very special occasion and the result was so much better than we had hoped for, and learning how to wear it before gifting it so your mana is gifted too just made it so very personal. Thank you Garth and Jo, Arohanui (much love)

4 of us walked TOGR over 4 nights, 5 days. It was awesome. We walked south to north, and the first two days it rained, so on Day 3 when we awoke to beautiful blue skies we walked back 2.5klms without our packs first thing in the morning from Ghost Lake hut, so that we could see the views from Heavens Door and the Tombstone. So glad we did, the views were absolutely worth it. The terrain and scenery on this track is ever changing, and always spectacular. Great huts, well equipped and plenty of hand sanitiser available. Thanks to the people who built this track and to those who maintain it. Loved it!

What yummy Gin. Loved the tasting of the various gins and perfect lil' ones to take on the Old Ghost Road - 5 day tramp. I will be supporting this little distilling company. Loved the pink one with its botanical notes. Yum!
