Letchworth State Park

Letchworth State Park, the "Grand Canyon of the East," is where a 17-mile stretch of the Genesee River roars through the park's scenic gorge with three major waterfalls and cliffs as high as 600 feet, surrounded by lush forests. Recently named Best State Park in the nation, Letchworth's new Humphrey Nature Center is a must-see. Walk the seven-mile Gorge Trail with jaw-dropping views at the overlooks or take the trail to the water's edge. I addition to trails, several hundred campsites and cabins, other amenities and activities include a pool, playground, athletic fields, festivals, cultural events, history and performing arts programs, guided walks, whitewater rafting, and hot-air ballooning.

Mount Morris Dam

Reviewed By gingersthomas - Gouverneur, New York

This is a great tour with extremely knowledgeable guides. It operates twice in weekends and once each weekday, bit is limited to 30 persons per tour so get there early. This is a military installation so photos are permitted outside and on the bridge of the dam, however neither cameras nor cell use are permitted inside. There is a 160 ft elevator ride down into the Dam and you walk through drift-like tunnels. May not be the best for those with claustrophobia issues. There is also a long walk down and back up a steep cement ramp to get to the Dam and back. This could be physically challenging. There is plenty of parking and a play ground, a great place to picnic as well. There is a small walk through Peace Corps and Dam display onsite. No gift shop. No charge for this activity.

If you have the chance to see balloons over letchworth Memorial Day balloon festival, go for it. It is free and absolutely beautiful, situated in the picturesque Letchworth State Park. You can watch them inflate the balloons and then silently take off over the gorge....MoreI'm so glad you enjoyed it. The weather is always the big issue. If it is not safe, we stay on the ground. I'm very happy you caught a good day. Even if the balloons don't fly, Letchworth is a wonderful place to be!

Rolling Hills Asylum

Established in 1827 as the Genesee County Poor House with the Genesee County Infirmary added in 1938, RHA was originally a working farm that became a dumping ground for the castoffs of society. Orphans mingled with lunatics, and the unclaimed dead were buried on the property. Over 1,700 documented deaths and hundreds of more not accounted for. Known for class "A" EVP's, shadow people, doors slamming and much more!Rolling Hills Asylum is the second most haunted location in North America, and Number 4 in the world!!!!We offer several different tours, hunts and events! Please check out our website for more information.

RHA is a really cool place and the story behind it is very interesting. The woman who owns it really loves the place, and that’s evident when she talks about it. The fact that you can explore solo after her 1.5 hrs of a tour is awesome. One thing we didn’t care for was the “staging” of the rooms. A lot of the stuff is donated to fill some rooms, which takes away from the authenticity. Otherwise, we enjoyed our tour/ visit and enjoyed our interactions with the owner!

What an absolutely fablous day. Never done white water rafting before so was a little apprehensive, no need to have been!!
After a full safety briefing and issue of life jackets which were checked by staff to ensure they were fitted correctly we were bussed to the point where we launched the rafts.
We had a briiliant guide called Glenn (never having done it before felt it best to have one experienced boat member, there were five in the raft). Glenn was very steady and calm and told us exactly what to do without panic or shouting.
There were a couple of stops along the five mile route taking in some breath taking scenery and an chance to slide down the rocks under supervision.
The staff are great have obvioulsy been doing their job for many years and the make the whole experience both memorable and exciting.
Would definitely do it again and in stronger currents. This is a great way to pepare for strnger faster flowing water
Thanks to everyone at Adventure Calls
