President Franklin D. Roosevelt built his "Little White House" in Warm Springs, Georgia, in 1932 while serving as governor of New York.
We completely enjoyed our visit. The staff are very friendly and full of information. The displays are fascinating. I especially enjoyed the adapted wheel chairs and cane collection. The house itself is very well preserved. Relaxing and worthwhile.

The Manchester railfan platform offers lights, a roof, and picnic tables overlooking the junction between two busy CSX lines. You can expect around 30 trains a day and foreign power is pretty common here. One negative is the scanner no longer works. There is not really anything for a family to do in Manchester but any railfan should be delighted with the covered platform.

Site of Dowdell's Knob, President Franklin Roosevelt's favorite picnic spot where he hosted family barbecues.
A brilliant day with nothing going on called for a visit to FDR to explore some of its miles of hiking trails. This morning’s excursion was the Wolfden Loop, a 6.7 mile trail with 5 of it along the park’s Pine Mountain Trail.
I got there bright and early coming in from the Warm Springs side of the park & parked at the small lot located at “Mile 18” of the Pine Mountain trail. This is where the Wolfden Loop begins, and signs are posted to make sure that even habitually lost people like me know where I need to go. The Pine Mountain trail is clearly blazed too, so it’s an easy walk through the woods.
The first couple of miles are basically “I’m in the woods” kinds of views, pleasant enough but nothing that really stands out. But as you start to descend into a glen (hmm, is “glen” the right word?) you see a giant loblolly pine and a small stream runs by it. You’ll be crossing back and forth this stream a few times over the next mile or two, sometimes with a boardwalk, sometimes with a little boulder-hopping. The highlight of this part (and the highlight of the whole loop) is a series of small waterfalls. They’re not large – the biggest one might be 5 feet – but they’re pretty and made this an enjoyable time.
At Mile 23 of the Trail, you leave the Pine Mountain trail and take the Beaver Marsh/White Candle Trails to make the Wolfden Loop, um, loop. (The signage notating “Wolfden Loop” disappears at this point oddly enough.) I say Beaver Marsh/White Candle because they intertwine with each other – it’s a little confusing without a map but follow any signs for Beaver Marsh unless its not mentioned – otherwise follow White Candle. Better yet, just pull up a photo of the trail map from the website and disregard this inevitably confusing paragraph. Both trails are enjoyable changes from what you’ve just done – Beaver Marsh takes you through an open field of young pines, and White Candle which concludes the loop gives you some mountain glimpses of the surrounding lands. An enjoyable 2.5 hours that I would call moderate, not only for the distance but for the stream crossing.
I finished up my time in the park by visiting the celebrated Dowdell Knob, because I know that’s what FDR would have wanted me to do. It’s a great lookout into the area, and very peaceful when you’re the only one out there.
A quick drop by the Visitor’s Center before I left, though there isn’t anything like a museum there which is a bit of a surprise given the park’s namesake. But Warm Springs has its share of FDR museums so if you’re interested in the man you can explore more there. Otherwise if it’s a good hike you’re after, you know what to do.

When we first pulled up we thought we were in someones residential driveway, definitely small and quaint. Truly gives you that "relax and make yourself at home" type of feeling. You are allowed to walk around the grounds an may choose to enjoy the beautiful butterfly garden. Wine tasting is excellent. Staff are very informative so if you don't know much about wines, you will be amazed at the information you will walk away with. As for the wines themselves, GREAT selection for such a small winery. You'll get to try the jalapeno wine, sounds terrible but its one of their best sellers. If you buy a few bottles, you'll get a discount.

I had heard about the warm pools on PBS. I expected them to be full of water, but they are drained and you get to walk into the middle one and touch water bubbling from the warm springs. It was interesting to me that it is not hot and that is why it is called Warm Springs.
It is interesting to think back about what medical knowledge existed in FDR's day. Polio had such a tragic impact on so many lives.
FDR is still an inspiration to me because, although he was wealthy, he cared about the poor and the crippled and tried to help them.

I did a beautiful fall hike in the Wolf's Den Trail going from the west end to the east end. The west half is mostly upland hardwoods with well marked trails in great condition. Hiking on a beautiful weekend day I only encountered three other groups of hikers on the western half.
The waterfalls and the "Wolf's Den" are on the eastern half making that half more desirable and thus much more populated. After descending from the uplands into the valley that the second half of the trail runs through, I encountered no less than 15 other groups of hikers. Also, the trail was not as nice due to muddy areas in the lower, wetter areas the trail ran through.
There were no truly significant elevation changes during the hike with the exception of the before mentioned transition from the uplands to the creek bottom. Of the falls on the eastern half, the only one with any significant flow at this time of year was Cascade Falls. It has a small but respectable flow and a significant pool at the base. The other falls were nice but weren't very significant.
Hiking at a decent pace with a stop at Cascade Falls my total time from the west end to the east end was about four hours. For those concerned about the terrain, my wife hiked in from the east end to Cascade Falls and back out with our daughter on her chest with no problems.Either end to end or halfway and back is a nice half day hike for those wanting to see a bit of F.D. Roosevelt State Park.

Description of a warm-water hatchery where visitors can see how striped bass and sturgeon are raised.
Located on the southeast corner of Warm Springs. Large, well maintained, clean grounds with several natural pools. Small indoor aquarium with several displays and local fish. Free admission !!! The pools were not as full of fish as I thought they would be, but they were very clean; saw some minnows, bass, gars, turtles, frogs, and even a small Eastern Alligator in a secure pond. The wooden walkways were very nicely laid out. Enjoyed a relaxing walk around the grounds on a bright sunny day. Saw a few employees and they were friendly, cheerful, and NOT overbearing in any way.

We found this place while visiting the local historic pools. They offered wine flights from Georgia wineries. We ordered the petit flight with 4 tastings. It was wonderful. Ordered the sweet cheese tray to go along with it.
They also offer coffee and tea’s.
Had a really nice visit.
Owner and staff very friendly.
Please visit this place.

A non-profit organization located in Warm Springs, GA, FCFS promotes putting compassion into action by doing the right thing and making a real difference in the lives of individuals who have endured abuse and neglect. Here at FCFS we endeavor to bring the lives of these tortured souls full circle by surrounding them with compassion, safety and peace. Tours, events, cooking classes, yoga retreats, plant-based nutrition classes - and more!
Full Circle Farm Sanctuary is an amazing place to visit. They offer both tours and volunteer opportunities. Participating in either opportunity you learn about the rescued animals and gain a better understanding of what it means to live a compassionate lifestyle.
Spending an afternoon hugging Dougie the sweetest blind goat you will ever meet, seeing how much the always loving pigs Brando and Sebastain enjoy their belly rubs, or simply walking pasture to pasture to enjoying the engagement with the over 100 rescues, is a life changing experience. The property is beautiful and the staff is welcoming to all visitors.
Volunteering as a one time or on a regular basis is a great way enjoy the landscape, support the compassionate mission of FCFS and spend time bonding with these amazing animals.
I highly recommend visiting for a paid tour as a family, or participating in free volunteering with family, friends or co-workers. Bring your camera to capture the memories.

Gifts and gourmet made in the USA
Just when you think you have been in all the shops in Warm Springs, turn the corner and discover the magnificence of an “All American Made” gift shop! The Bluebird Cottage is a collection of the best of the best of unique gifts for any occasion. From the gourmet delicacies, such as pecan butter, divine divinity, gourmet teas, cookies, mustards, and jellies (Braswell’s Spiced Apple preserves and champagne mustards are wonderful) etc., to the light fragrances of Camille Beckman’s products (my favorite is the French Vanilla glycerine hand therapy), and everything in the neatly displayed rooms, take the time to find a special remembrance for the right person. During one of our visits, Southern authors were having a book signing! You never know what the new seasons will bring!!! For Christmas, the fragrant soaps, candles and potpourri were perfect surrounding the special Christmas ornaments of Warm Springs!! This is a special, special place that will transport you back in time with a special fragrance, sound, (great CD selection), and toys!!!! This shop truly has something for everyone!!!
