Connecting two separate mountains otherwise connected only by bus and expanding the skiing possibilities, linking the Flachau-Wagrain/Griessenkareck and Wagrain/Grafenberg-St.Johann resorts. Maybe not an attraction per se, but a very useful link to all the ski enthusiasts out there. Impressive views of Wagrain town from over 100m altitude are a bonus.

Wherever you hear “Silent Night, Holy Night”, time stands still for a moment, whether it is at midnight mass, at home by the Christmas tree or ringing out from the radio. Even today, it is testimony to a profound basic human need for peace and reflection, which overrides religious and geographic boundaries to bring people together in reconciliation. The “Silent Night Museum in the “Pflegerschlössl” is dedicated not only to the life and work of the writer, Joseph Mohr (1792-1848), who spent the last eleven years of his life as a vicar in Wagrain, but also to the global circulation and effect of the song. The “Pflegerschlössl” is an ideal location for this unique museum project. It was constructed in 1794 for the supreme archiepiscopal administrator, withstood both political and social upheaval, served as an administrative office and a courtroom, then as a school, a bell foundry, a blacksmith, a residential house and finally it became a museum.

Karl Heinrich Waggerl was one of the most important Austrian writers and his literary work is full of descriptions of his home, always showing a close attachment to Wagrain. From the very beginning of his time in Wagrain until his death in 1973, he lived in the “Waggerl House”, which was first documented in 1776 and where he wrote his literary works. The most important rooms have been left as they were when Waggerl lived in them. Throughout the house there are examples of Waggerl’s handicraft activities such as bookbinding, painting, drawing, photography and his collections. The museum is designed to be a place where visitors can get to know the poet, meet him again or examine him and his writing. Furthermore, it includes many aspects of a traditional local history museum, as everything about his hometown area was very central to Waggerl’s work.
