The 14th century Baptistry of St. John is part of the Duomo complex in a separate building and, though small in comparison to the cathedral, it contains awe inspiring art detailing the life of John the Baptist much of which dates from the 15th century. Magnificent art covers every inch of the walls and sculptures adorn the nooks, all accomplished by the most famous artists of the day, Donatelli, Lorenzo Ghiberti, Jacopo della Quercia and others. A worthy place to sit, marvel and meditate.

Another piece of the art and history of the people of Volterra. Beautiful old building at its place in the Piazza near the baptistery. Walk around the Duomo to enjoy all the art and workmanship.
