The Temple Hill Park makes Alūksne the highest town in Latvia. In ancient times it was a Latgalian castle mound but nowadays the top pf the hill is decorated with the Temple of Fame - the granite rotunda built in 1807 on the order of Baron von Vietinghoff. Nearby there is a pedestrian bridge called the Sun Bridge.
Across the iland with castle ruins is a walking bridge to temple park/forest with watch tower and beautiful sceneries.

Piece and Tranquillity. Gauja is beautiful! Recommended to go during the week days ( less people) We went on Monday. Left car in Sigulda Pludmale ( Camping Site on the beach near the bridge & Tartzan fun park)./ Had a ride to Ligatne and started our trip down the river back to Sigulda ( trip 6hrs, but there is a choice of shorter distances) You don't need to row much, as the river had strong current and takes you with it. Stopped for a swim on the beautiful sandy beaches. Child still had energy to go on the rides at Tarzan. Don't forget suncream and a hat :) P.S. This trip can be done for free if you have your own boat/ kayak and a lift .

Alūksne New Palace is surrounded by a park with oak trees planted in the 18th century. The park is unique for its small architectural buildings. An exciting walk along its paths visiting the Aeolus' temple, the Granite Obelisk, the Alexander's Pavilion, and other buildings that leads to the palace with Neo-Gothic nobility cannot be found in any other place in Latvia.
In the center of Aluksne is a castle and a manor park. Easy to access. In the museum you can learn more about the history of the city.

I loved it! There is a very nice view to the sea and the river which joins the sea. On the dune is a wooden walkway with branches and viewing points. The beach is very clean. This place is away from the city so it’s not crowded. Good place to rest and enjoy the sun!

Located on the both sides of the Gauja valley, Sigulda is one of the most beautiful Latvian towns. For centuries, it has been captivating visitors from around the world wishing to experience the breathtaking view across the valley and discover the unique objects that are, in large numbers, located right next to each other all across Sigulda and Gauja National Park. We offer: -Free tourist information and tips for the best experience in the region; -Exciting journeys into the past: castles, medieval programs; -Active leisure in Gauja National Park - hiking, cycling, boat tours and many more; -Unique adventure facilities; -Culture and sport events.
Located in the Sigulda railway station, the staff speak good English and were very helpful in offering advice and suggestions on hiking options in the Gauja national park, the worthwhile sites to fit with our time allowance, plus some great detailed maps, most of which are free

Wine shop by the Ligatne Winery. Ligatne highly appreciated wines from berries, fruits and flowers. Apple vodka "Ferryman". Degustations for individuals and groups.
I have visited the winery in the end of August. This definitely should be on a map of wine lovers. In the shop made in the cave you can have a tasting of different wines and later on purchase the one you have liked. Few kilometers away is the winery itself with a little spoon factory where if arranged in advance you can have lunch made by a local village women, for additional fee see the winery itself and see the process of wood spoon making (if pre-arranged). I liked the idea that all family is in this business and if you are on your way from Riga to Tallinn or around Sigulda, it is a nice spot to color your day.
