So splendid was medieval Verona that its reputation alone inspired Shakespeare to set two plays here (Romeo and Juliet and The Two Gentlemen of Verona). Though its connection to the actual Capulets is tenuous at best, the so-called Juliet's House draws half a million tourists per year, many of them keen on reenacting the balcony scene. Don't miss the Roman amphitheater and the Palazzo Barberi.

Located on the other side of the Adige River from the main part of town, Teatro Romano is well worth heading out of the main part of town for. This is very much more than just a Roman theatre - there is a great museum showcasing some excellent artefacts and you are afforded some wonderful views over the city from the top of the site. Do pop in to the church on the site while you are here. It's in the process of being restored but lovely none-the-less. You can visit the Roman theatre with the Verona Card.
