Hollywood beckons to tourists who long for a brush with Tinseltown glamor. Tour movie studios, slip your hands into the famous prints at the TCL Chinese Theatre, or indulge in a celeb sighting at one of LA’s white-hot nightspots. Spot your favorite star while shopping at The Grove, or forget all about the famous eye candy as you take in the iconic artwork at The Getty Center. For a different type of star-gazing, peek through the telescopes at the Griffith Observatory.

At kapowui, we live, eat, and dream surfing. We teach surfing because we want to share our love and stoke for the sport. All of our instructors are imbued with the Aloha spirit. Kapowui believes we are all part of one big family, so when we are doing a lesson, we are 100% focused and in the moment with you. All of Kapowui's instructors live within blocks of the beach and surf every day. This is a life choice for us. We are not a corporate machine grinding out massive quantities of sub-par internet coupon lessons with minium wage non surfing employees. Kapowui is a locally owned business with soul that only hires real surfers. At Kapowui we truly care about your experince. So in the short time we have together we imerese you in the surf culture. Giving you the opportunity to feel the true surfer vibe, and gain a skill you can use forever. That is why many of the 4 and 5 star hotels in Los Angeles call us to service their guest (i.e. Four Seasons, Ritz Carlton, Beverly Hills Hotel, Shutters, Loews, Viceroy, Chateau Marmont, etc.) Whether surfing is a 1-time bucket list item or a new sport you want to pick up, we will have you up and riding waves your 1st lesson or your next lesson is free. At Kapowui, you are not just another number or dollar sign to us. You are family. So, come hang out with your brothers and sisters, and let's go catch some WAVES!!! Even if you don't do a lesson, come by and say "HI".Your lesson will take place at one of 4 iconic California beaches, Venice, Marina Del Rey, Malibu, or Santa Monica, where the sandy bottoms are safe and perfect for beginner lessons. Your lesson includes surfboard, wetsuit, and instructor. We ofer 1 hr., 1 1/2 hr., and 2 hr. lessons. The first 20 minutes of each lesson is done on the beach, covering board design and dynamics, wave dynamics, beach safety, surfing safety, surf etiquette, pop-up technique and form. The remainder of your time is spent in the water, surfing with your instructor. Everything is included, you only need to bring a positive vibe, however people often like to bring sunscreen, towel, and water.

A short walk from the Venice Beach eyesore, the canals provide a very different aspect of the area. Whereas the beach is full of cheap souvenir shops, and a large number of unfortunate folk who are living rough, the canal walks allow you to stroll past lovely homes and watch the ducks and squirrels go about their business. There are several canals and if interested you could easily spend a few hours walking them. A relaxing change.

Abbott Kinney is a lovely Street in Venice that spans about 1.5 MI. Parking is not easy but you will find a spot, but mind the meters. On the weekends it can be especially crowded, especially during the summer. It is just as pretty in the winter and I suggest you go then. There's a lot to do and a lot of walking on Abbot Kinney. Now, if you are looking for discount shopping or Cheap Eats go somewhere else. The street is filled with boutiques, art galleries, fine dining restaurants and expensive coffee and tea. Despite the cost it is great fun and if you want something unique you might very well find it. The area is relatively safe and there are few bars which are quite nice. Back to parking: do not go behind the street and find places to park inside the residential area you may find your car stolen when you get back. Stay right on or near Abbot Kinney and you will be fine. The place has gentrified over the years. It used to have little bars, tiny shops and even a few houses, that is no longer the case. But, as locals we have made the best of it and we have learned to love it. You will too

It’s a phenomenal piece of public art at the entrance to the Chiat-Day block that in fact it is known colloquially as the Binoculars Building. Unsurprisingly Frank Gehry was the architect and completion was in the early 2000s. Entrance to the car park and for pedestrians is between the lenses.

There are some really talented skateboarders here, there were a few youngsters under the age of ten that were amazing to watch and completely fearless.
