We had a wonderful tour of St Petersburg with Marina. She was a wonderful guide: friendly, cheerful and hugely knowledgable. She collected us promptly at our hotel and we spent a full day discovering the key sights of the city – a perfect introduction that we could never have managed alone. She told us a huge amount about the city, its history and its place in the wider story of Russia. The tour was built around us and what we wanted to do, and Marina and the excellent driver helped make sure we got back a little early as we were heading out for the evening. A magical day!

Veliky Novgorod, also known as Novgorod the Great, or just Novgorod, is one of the most important historic cities in Russia, UNESCO recognised Novgorod as a World Heritage Site in 1992 . At its peak during the 14th century, the city was the capital of Novgorod Republic and one of Europe's largest cities and a major Baltics to Byzantium station on the trade route from the Varangians to the Greeks. City was not destroyed by nazis in a period of WW2, as well as never been captured by Tatar hordes. So, its ancient beauty is almost untouched! We invite you to spend a day deep in real Russia, visit the Kremlin, orthodox churches and get closer to our history.

Inclusions: Professional art historian guide, Lunch, Hotel pickup and drop-off, Air-conditioned vehicle

Exclusions: Gratuities

We should have done this fantastic tour at the beginning of our stay in Saint Petersburg. The fortress is the oldest architectural ensemble of the city and it was really exciting to see these authentic fortifications. We also learned a great deal about the Romanovs, the city history and life in imperial Russia.

We booked a private two day tour of St. Petersburg with Dancing Bears Tours for June 2020. Julia, the owner, handled the booking and customized the tour so that we could see every site we wanted to visit. It was going to be considerably less expensive than the tours offered by our cruise ship, and was going to be much more thorough and efficient than traveling around St. Petersburg with 30 other people. Unfortunately Covid 19 got in the way. We had to cancel trip, and our tour of St. Petersburg. At our request, Julia very graciously returned our full deposit. We were so impressed at how willing she was to work with us to design exactly the tour that we wanted, and were even more impressed that she was willing to return our deposit. We will definitely re-book with Dancing Bears when we can finally travel to St. Petersburg.
