Let the beautiful coastal town of Varkala melt your worries and tensions away. Varkala’s peaceful seaside cliffs adjoin the Arabian Sea, setting the scene for several water spouts and wellness spas. The waters lapping at Papanasam beach are considered to have holy, sin-cleansing properties, and the nearby Ayurveda treatment center will cleanse what the ocean missed.

Being a very old temple, it has a very rich history. A search for the temple on the internet gives one a quick run throuhg history. The temple and surroundings are clean and very well maintained. Gents are required to be bare chested while in the temple of the main deity. Adjacent to the temple is the temple pond. An early morning visit to the temple to is a great way to meditate and get energised. The west side temple entrance provides road level access to the temple without the need to climbe steep stairs.

The lighthouse, very close to the Anjengo Fort in Anchuthengo offers a superb 360° view over the fort, beaches, backwaters and endless coconut groves. It's very worth to climb up the stairs to the top. Be aware of that opening times are restricted to 3-5 pm.

The whole five coconut area is clean, calm and quite gorgeous. The garden and lighthouse pristine and one could easily imagine it back in the days of colonial rule
