Visited in Dec 19. Via Cruise Ship Magnificent Day Crystal clear water, if you are confident snorkeller, we hired kayak and paddled out to waves breaking ( you can see from beach) paddle out back of break and the coral is amazing, took a break by sitting on kayak, before paddling back. we noticed some people hired boat to take them out, Not huge number of fish but the coral was very healthy with beautiful colors. We hired kayak from local boy for $50 AUD for 3 hours.

Hired a car from. Our resort... Turtle Bay, and headed north about 35km. Kept driving past the usual champange beach and got glimpses of some incredible water color. There is a sign post inviting you in and there is no charge unlike some others. We found most probably the best beach I have been to, there is a small restaurant and bar and the beach. We were lucky and have the place almost to ourselves. If there was a hotel on site I'd never leave.

Louniel Beach is a surf beach ideally placed at the centre of the long stretch of beaches located on the northern sweep of the north-eastern side of the island. Louniel beach is a black sand beach reminiscent of the northern west coast beaches of the north island of New Zealand such as Piha and Muriwai. The coastline is covered in large plantations of Coconut palms and numerous Pandanus trees.Louniel beach has rolling surf, like its New Zealand counterparts, but its tropical setting makes the water temperature much warmer. The beach itself is not flat but - falls away fairly quickly allowing swimming in close to the shore. The black sand reminds one of powder snow and you can sink up to some depth in places. There are a number of underwater volcanic fumaroles just out to sea which results in various parts of the beach being covered in wavy patterns of pumice beads.A walk along the full length of Louniel beach takes about an hour and shows a different side of Tanna, most visitors don't get to see and appreciate. Getting to the beach is up over the transverse road from the whitegrass plains, to the cross roads in Middlebush. From there the road to Fetukai, leads onto the road down to the beach itself - the ride providing an exceptional view of the large Banyan trees and tall tree ferns amongst the dense tropical rainforest.Just before walking down onto the flatland adjacent to the beach, visitors can view the entire length of the beach from an escarpment immediately above it. The view is breathtaking, with My Yasur Volcano smoking in the background. Louniel Beach provides a contrasting experience to a trip to Tanna and one which ultimately ends up being a highlight to any visit to Vanuatu.

We had a great morning snorkeling here with the family (2 adults, 2 kids 13 & 11) our driver recommend us to come to Gideon's beach/Havana Bay as we wanted to snorkel and see some colourful fish. We were not disappointed and just a few metres out coral and lots of fish! It's an easy safe place for the kids to snorkel and get confidence as they don't have to go far off shore to see another world. The weather was ok, overcast but it didn't effect our day as you could still see beautiful blue and colourful fish. We were greeted by a lovely young waitress who gave us a bread roll for the children to feed the fish ???? There was no fee, but were very happy to have lunch here to support this local business. The food was fresh and yummy we had calamari, fish & chips with a couple of local beers and soft drinks (as we're on holidays) I would definitely come back next time we're here!

This beach is beautiful! The water is crystal clear and it was a nice tepid temperature when we visited in Jan 2020. We visited with a tour booked through our hotel, with Yumi Tours and Intimate Tours - our tour guides Oliver and Freddy were phenomenal and shared a lot of information about the beach and its surrounds. It helps to visit with a local guide, as you’ll learn a lot about the neighbouring villages and the beach itself. Wear ocean shoes or strapped sandals if you can - the small rocks on the shoreline are quite rough and sharp. There were small black volcanic rocks floating atop the water when we visited; this bothered some, but really, was not a big deal. There are small roofed “stalls” on the shore - these are perfect for a sit down lunch, whilst looking out onto the water. We visited whilst a cruise ship was NOT in town ... we therefore had the whole beach to ourselves and our little tour group. A beautiful spot in Vanuatu, showcasing the country’s natural splendour and the best of Mother Nature.
