Wildlife SOS Agra Bear Rescue Facility is home to nearly 200 sloth bears that were rescued from the brutal practice of bear dancing. The kalandar gypsies that depended on exploiting these bears were established in alternative livelihoods by Wildlife SOS to ensure the safety of the bears and a legal way of life for the community. This center is run entirely from Donations raised by Wildlife SOS. The Forest Department charges an Admission of Rs 500 for Foreign Nationals and Rs 50 for Indians. These fees do not go to support the bear rescue center. Wildlife SOS offers conservation educational visit combined with interaction with bear experts. A donation is requested from visitors to help care for the animals. Receipt is issued for donations. Wildlife SOS also runs India's only Elephant Hospital at the Elephant Conservation & Care Center, home to over 20 rescued elephants ; a 15 min drive from the bear sanctuary. Contact Wildlife SOS for more details.
Julia and I visited the elephants and we learnt so much about the terrible cruelty of the wonderful animals. Up close with the rescued elephants you could feel the love and care being taken to give them happy lives, a million miles away from the circuses, wedding accessories, and private toys of rich businessmen . We watched them being fed, washed medically cared for. Then we went to the sloth bear sanctuary which showed equally how wildlifeSOS are giving the lives back to these animals who have been used for human entertainment with such cruelty. Please visit both places and spread the word and support this charity that is not funded by the government.

Ruchika Art Gallery exhibits numerous paintings which narrate the stories of the holy city, Varanasi. It is a great spot for anyone who wants to know more about the city or takeaway a souvenir as a memory for lifetime. Ms. Ruchika is a wonderful artist and her gallery is a must visit.

One of the oldest cities of India, Banaras acts as an important religious center. The numerous bathing ghats (steps) along the bank of the Ganges attract huge crowds of pilgrims.
The Ghats in Varanasi are Riverfront steps leading to River Ganges, There are nearly 88 ghats in Varanasi where bathing, pooja ceremonies are held. The most prominent of the ghats and by far the largest and cleanest is Dashashwamedha ghat where Bramha performed Ashwamedha yagna. You need to reach the ghat from the main road near Godaulia crossing by rickshaw. You have to spend time in the ghat to soak in the atmosphere of the milling crowds, saadhus, cows, dogs, touts etc. The best way to see other ghats is to take a sunset boat ride on Ganges from Dashaashwamedha ghat. A single private rowing boat ride followed by viewing Ganga Aarthy from boat will cost you about 1500. Prominent ghats are Manikarnika & Harishchandra ghats where bodies are cremated 24 hours, Assi ghat, Bramha ghat etc . If you are travelling in winter make sure you are carrying adequate warm clothes

We had the opportunity to walk many of the Ghats, be on the Ganges for sunrise and sunset, observe people bathing, washing clothes, seeing cremation services and observing the Ganga Aarti devotional ritual being performed. This is a unique experience - being able to be on The Holy River is a once in a lifetime opportunity. Nothing we have seen in our overseas travels compares to this.

India Trip Offer Dashashwamedh Ghat is the main ghat in Varanasi on the Ganga River. It is located close to Vishwanath Temple and is probably the most spectacular ghat. Two Hindu legends are associated with it: According to one, Lord Brahma created it to welcome Lord Shiva
The main ghat of Varanasi where there is action 24/7, the epitome is the Ganga Aarti performed every evening, witnessed by tens of thousands from the shore and from the river on boats. An elaborate affair that is truly breathtaking. Once a filthy spot, now it is absolutely clean and gleaming.

The Panch Mahal is a rectangular building, comprising five levels of colonnaded terraces open on all sides. Some of the columns form pavilions. Some of the columns are so thin and elegant, combined with the red sandstone glinting off the sunlight makes an already picturesque building look beautiful. My guide told me that the use of the building was not known for certain, but it was probably used as a harem and place of entertainment and relaxation.

The Dhamekha stupa and other imposing structures adorn this holy site where Buddha first preached his message.
Very beautifully maintained and excellent facilities provided by the ASI and the Govt of India. Very impressed! The information provided is good. The place is neat and clean. A nominal fee is taken as entry charges. The museum is excellent. The highlight being the Ashok Chakra. It’s amazing to know that the national emblem is an integration of Buddhist philosophies. Truly unity in Diversity! For those who seek peace this historical place where Buddha gave his first sermon after attaining Nirvana is THE place to meditate in, the energies here are absolutely amazing! Loved being there and spending quality time in the place where the Teachings were given.

Visited the architectural marvel along with both kids and better half on 16th fm 08:00 hrs to 11:00 hrs . Its indeed a building which signifies best of architectural design and beauty , but the way it's being managed by the board/ management (if there is any) it's far below standard . Few DOs : carry ur own water steel bottle , as the plastic bottle sold is local made and drinking water cooler is neither clean not marked in which year it was . Juices and snacks prices are jacked up , if hungry carry own snacks - it's permissible . Carry good pixel - dslr (nominal fee) / mobile (permitted) and no other visible restriction . Local guide is required if you intend to know the history of the building , can be negotiated at rs.30-35 per person , for 4 persons we paid rs.125 Handicapped person cannot visit due to no supportive infrastructure . Wear thick cotton socks as walking without shoes only is permitted in labyrinth (bhool bhuliya) , prefer October to March cooler months . During summer months the building roof galleries and terraces are not covered with carpet (dari) , causing severe sun burns on ur feet (socks++) - which are best locations to take snaps thru telephoto lenses or high mm lenses , with entire old Lucknow as background . While purchasing ticket , purchase combined ticket for seeing five buildings , it's nominal as low as rs.50 per person ( kids above 3/5 it's considered adult , tentatively). The local guide for "bouli" charges rs.25-30 for group of 4 persons - pl hire to understand the significance of the building. The sacred masjid is not permitted for visit as it's a worship place . Shoes are kept in open (no shade / locker room) with tokens issued @ nominal rs.2 a pair - carry small denomination equivalent coins. Hiring local guide for seeing for all monuments thru combined ticket - roomi darwaja + clock tower + picture gallery + chikan factory (it's no factory but cluster of private owned shops charging exhorbitant ) , along with visits in e-rickshaw costs rs.100 , but there is NO guide per se , rather e-rick guy speaks and we believe :) - no other option . The picture gallery guy (no picture taking permitted) starts moving along and expects to be paid rs.100 or 50 or whatever comfortable . In case of crowd inside the labyrinth , walking in 2.5 ft corridor becomes difficult and smell of substantially old carpet in the pathway is bad - carry handkerchief (with perfume) /masks /ginger water and stamina to wait to get passage , rather feeling pukey. Overall entire cluster of beautifully made buildings require : professional management by an agency which is monitored , uniform clothes , helpline numbers (aren't any , neither displayed - so called tourist police A4 size mobile number displayed on white page at enterance and two stationary sleuths sitting at main gate ) . Proper shoe cabinet rack availability , Que management , automatic room freshners , fire extinguishers , infirmary , digital display boards in the respective languages giving authentic information of the respective buildings and knowledgeable recognised (government board approved) , educated local guides . To know the significance of old Lucknow and its rich history , visit must be made .

I went in 1996 from my BHU university days, being a hostel student,i found this trip from day scholars, and my experience has been wonderful. It was Oct, post monsoon time, water flow was medium, and you can view rainbows in water fall, depending on the time of the day you are visiting. Both Rajdari and Devdari are excellent picnic spots, for 1 day trip. Not sure if there is any govt guest house, circuit house for overnight 1-2 day stays.
