What to do and see in Utah, United States: The Best Scenic Walking Areas

February 28, 2022 Agatha Simes

Welcome to “The Greatest Snow on Earth” – Utah’s paradise for all outdoor enthusiasts! As host of the 2002 Winter Olympics, Park City knows how to entertain winter fun seekers. Snowboarders and skiers head for miles of spectacular slopes with deep fluffy powder and breathtaking mountain views. The Olympic Park provides family-friendly ski programs, rides and shows. Alta, Sundance, Snowbird and Brighton are other popular destinations for cross country and Alpine skiers. Those alluring snowy slopes turn to rolling wildflower fields in the summer. Golfing, fishing, horseback riding and water sports replace chilly outdoor sports adventures. Corral the family, pack a picnic and catch one of the ski lifts for an afternoon of hiking or mountain biking along scenic trails. Head to Salt Lake City, where Temple Square hosts millions of visitors a year. Bryce Canyon and Arches National Park are famous for surreal landscapes from horseshoe-shaped amphitheaters to unusual rock formations and hundreds of natural sandstone arches. Closer to home, wander along the quaint main streets of mountain villages to browse, shop and enjoy lunch at an outdoor café. At the end of the day, head home for an outdoor barbecue and an evening of games. Home rentals blend privacy, space and comfort with the cost-saving advantage of eating some meals at home.

Little Black Mountain Petroglyph Site

Reviewed By EDWARDP961 - Spring Branch, United States

This place is not hard to find once you get good directions. Had to go to Google to get the coordinates. Take highway 7 east from I15. Go to river road and take the gravel road heading south. You will see a petroglyph sign within a quarter mile or so. Then the adventures begin. It is a rough long road. You will eventually get there. The petroglyphs are still visible though a bit weathered. The hike is short as promised.

Silver Lake

Reviewed By MKTBE - Topeka, United States

The drive up Big Cottonwood Canyon was amazing, but the spectacular views hiking in the Brighton area were nothing short of majestic! On a lovely September afternoon, we warmed up with the easy, picturesque hike loop around Silver Lake. The majority of the loop is a boardwalk, with benches and lake outlooks. It was very peaceful and relaxing. Then a short parking lot drive away the real hiking begins! The temperature was perfect for the strenuous, uphill hikes to Lakes Mary, Martha and Catherine. For a Kansan, hiking at the altitude of 8,500 - 10,000 feet was challenging! Taking breaks to catch our breath, and to take lots of photos, it took us about three hours to hike to the lakes and back. Lake Mary is absolutely gorgeous! We saw numerous adorable chipmunks and one moose. There are other trails in this area, and we can't wait to return to Utah, so that we can do more hiking in the Wasatch Mountains.

Paria View

Reviewed By RICART75 - Peru, United States

The suprising part for us is that this viewing point is so far down the list of TA things to do in the Park. We found the views here as wonderously indescribable as many other points; and with somewhat easier paved access. Less crowded than other areas, this was a very pleasurable place to explore. And, as usual in this Park, we found words inadequate to describe the viewing impact.
