I've visited Seaman Mineral Museum several times, and every time I see new things and new displays; really amazing things, especially the Copper Country rocks and minerals. The Fluorescent mineral display is world class. Don't miss this Museum.

I recently visited this museum while on bicycle tour. Loved it so much I returned for a second look. Extremely well designed with a perfect balance between the local human culture/community and the technological aspects of the discovery and iron mining industry years. This is a real gem and I highly recommend.

The Iron County Historical and Museum Society was founded in October 1962. In 1963, the Pickands-Mather Co. deeded 5.5 acres, including the headframe and engine house of the Caspian Mine, to the County of Iron to create a museum. In 1968, the Museum opened in time for the Caspian and Mineral Hills Jubilees. The grounds were planned with outdoor complex-es following the European pattern of development.
This is a fantastic museum even though it is hidden away. It is in the small adjacent community of Caspian. It features fantastic art galleries with the headliner being originals by Lee LeBlanc (winner of the 1973 Federal Duck Stamp competition). The historical collection is first rate. This is worth going out of your way for.

The man standing in the doorway of the blacksmith shop is the grandson of Amos Bammert who owned the blacksmith shop. His name is Albert Leslie Bammert this was taken July 2017 on a trip we took up there. He was my best friend he and his brothers donated the blacksmith shop to the Historical Society a few years back.

Pleasantly surprised by this small but rich museum which tells the interesting story of the Ojibwa people who live in Michigan. Very good introductory video and several interesting displays and artifacts. Don't miss the outdoor displays, which include a traditional long house. Well worth stopping for. Easy parking around the museum.
