This is an easy walk up to the top with a very scenic view of the lake and the surrounding areas. The trail is wide and not steep at all and fairly short.

Bond Falls

Reviewed By lamalfi - Roseville, United States

If you love walking through the woods and listening to the sound of waterfalls THIS is the place for you! Wasn't sure what to expect but I was NOT disappointed. Spent the best part of 3 hours here and just walked through the trails and was mesmerized by the beauty of all of the the waterfalls around. From small trickles to rushing rapids there was something at every turn. The trails are well marked for the most part but very easy to get off track. PLEASE NOTE: stay on the trails and DON'T be a daredevil and try to climb into the falls!!! There was one young lady that thought it would be cool to do and we all stood down at the bottom holding our breath waiting for her to go over!! The rocks are very slippery and are not to be climbed on. There are plenty of "nooks and crannies" to get up close to the many different falls so you won't be disappointed!! I dressed in long sleeves and jeans to avoid any poison ivy - yes, I was warm, but I was spared any poison! Spray down with bug spray also!! Would love to go back and spend some time camping in the area. Lots of campsites, small store, and outhouses for bathrooms (that were VERY SMELLY DIRTY - only drawback).

Soo Locks

Reviewed By AuntieM64

There is a viewing platform that is 3 levels tall right next to the Soo Locks so that people can see the freighters upbound - going west on the Great Lakes or downbound - going East on the Great Lakes. There is a phone number that you can also call to find out the schedule of the next ships to arrive. The town of Sault Ste. Marie is not a very big place and the viewing platform is right on the main street of the town with motels and restaurants right near it. I was watching ships arrive and depart for about 3 hours and saw many different classes of boats and ships. It is a unique experience if you have never seen something like this before, and wonderful for children and is absolutely free - but you and your purses and backpacks will be searched before being allowed into the enclosed area.

Fort Holmes

During the War of 1812, the British constructed a small fort on the highest point of the island, to better protect Fort Mackinac. Originally named Fort George, it was renamed by the Americans, following their return in 1815. The Americans continued to man the outpost for a few years, but eventually abandoned it. In 1934 a reconstruction, carried out by the Works Progress Administration and based on original plans, was completed. It was replaced by the current version in 2015.

It's really up there but the view is stunning! The highest point on the Island. Also easy to combine with a walk to sugar loaf, skull cave and the arch.

Iron Mountain Iron Mine

Guided Underground Tours -- A certified Michigan State Historical Landmark. This fascinating tour is family fun and educational too!! You won't forget the experience of visiting the Iron Mountain Iron Mine with skilled guides who take you through 2600 feet of underground drifts and tunnels to 400 feet below the earth's surface to see an amazing underground, lighted cavern giving you a close up view of strange geological formations. Watch tour guides operate mining machinery that was used over 100 years ago. Ride the underground mine train into the tunnel and walk approximately 2 city blocks to see the reality of iron ore mining. Over 21 million tons of iron ore was taken from this mine during 1877 to 1945. Visitors are given rain coats and hard hats before the tour begins. The temperature of the mine is a crisp 43 degrees, so a sweater or jacket is recommended along with closed covered shoes.

Is It You Spot From Somewhere in Time Movie!

Reviewed By KENNETHK301

This Great Hotel is 133 years old. It has been renovated over the decades and exudes the charm of Old South in spite of the fact that it is in the North! As promised, the front porch is unbelievably long, lined with dozens of rocking chairs. Live music is played each evening with a harpist in the lobby area, a dance band in a room made for dancing, and live music in the dining room. Food is plentiful -- from the buffet or the menu. Each guest room is uniquely decorated. Only "stuffy" part of staying there is that men must wear a coat and tie after 6:30 pm in the dining room and elsewhere, and that the dining room wait staff has very little diversity (reminds one of relegating low-paying positions to minorities). Magnificent views of lawns and flowers all around.
