Very unique church. Build for small bucks on hard terrain (bog). Unwanted by locals but still build. Masterpiece by architect Plečnik. True landmark missed by majority. Three things are bad: 1. Not close to center of Ljubljana 2. Hardly ever opend for public to see interior 3. Not allowed to take photos without permission of the owner (who cares really?)

According to tradition the church was built in the very earliest days of Kranjska Gora’s history. It was built in honour of the Virgin Mary and was called the church of Mary at Beli prod. Only the bell tower, built from sandy blocks in Romanesque style remains from the original church. The existing church dates back to the late Gothic period and was built in 1510 by master builder Jernej Firtaler from Villach. A certain Carinthian influence is evident mainly in the nave vault, which is supported by internal pillars and decorated with a web of ribs which makes it one of the most interesting of its kind in Slovenia.

A couple of blocks from the U.S. embassy and a ten minute walk from the heart of old town, this Orthodox church welcomes visitors into an artistic experience like no other. Numerous visitors of the faith came while we were there and showed appropriate reverence for the spiritual importance of the setting and artifacts. We enjoyed the brief visit and were surprised at how difficult it was to find information about it online. If you're wandering over to Tivoli Gardens, add this as a stop coming or going.

There is a small admission charge to view this gem of a church. The lady on the desk was very welcoming and helpful. The church is covered in wall paintings, several illustrating the life of St John.

The church dates to 15 century, with a beatifully ornamented ceiling and interesting baroque altars. A place definitely worth seeing. Compare it to the churches in Kranj and Velesovo!

A nice walk that will take around an hour, a very nice view, and when you "climb" it, you can get a nice cup of tea and maybe a pretzel while you're on top!

I usually avoid churches these days as they all tend to look the same but this one gabed my attention for its very unusual architecture. Inside it does look like a Catholic church in Europe with its ornate interior and artworks. Outside it could look like an Art Nouveau office building! Close to Congress square which has underground parking. Worthy of exploration here and the square.
