Lake Ruataniwha

Reviewed By 993anitat - Forster, Australia

We stopped on the edge of Lake Ruataniwha which is an artificial lake in the McKenzie Basin. It is located beside the highway two kilometres North of Twizel and forms part of the Waitaki Hydroelectric Project. There were lots of people along the bank trying their luck at catching a trout. Personally I was blown away by the sheer beauty of the mountains reflecting in the still water of the lake. I consider it a must stop, have a walk, fish or picnic and definitely take lots of photographs.
