An agriturismo located just north of Staggia-Senese, south of Poggibonsi, on the edge of Chianti Country
It is 7 years since we had the best memories of our life staying here and being fortunate to get to know Claudia Rudy and wee Gabrielle (who took an instant like to my pearl necklace) and we enjoyed watching him aged under 2 playing football at midnight with Rudy. How many children do they have now? It is on our bucket list to come back from NZ one day.

My friend and I did the olive picking experience. We were taught about growing olives and shown how they are picked, then we helped pick the olive from a tree they picked out for us. Appreciate the work and skill that goes into growing, harvesting and processing olives into extra virgin olive oil that is the purest and most delicious olive oil you will ever taste. Fabio, one of the family that owns the farm, and Luca our guide, made the experience the best time we had in Italy. We had a lovely lunch on the farm on a beautiful sunny warm day. We ordered some of the oil that would be made with the olives that we helped pick. It came today and we are enjoying the experience all over again. We have already decided we want to go back again! Please don't miss this experience it is the best time you will have!!!

- Seminars and tours are upon request - This unique talk on bio and chemical free gourmet extra virgin olive oil, given by Matteo, expert as well as one of Chianti's premier olive growers, is a chance to learn how the best oil is made and why it requires careful handling at each step of its production. The talk is given at the Lombardi Estate tasting room, surrounded by his 4,000 olive trees. This is also where the stone frantoio (olive press of which this is one of only 14 presses in Tuscany) is located, so you will be able to see the stone grinding wheels and press that delivers the oil from the olives.
Visiting this unique farm with friends from Livorno we hadn’t seen in 27 years was truly a wonderful experience. Our friends drove and oh what breathtaking views we had through this part of Tuscany. Many of the roads are unpaved, very curvy and yet this is part of the rustic charm. Matteo is the 2nd generation in the family business and we certainly hope not the last! He explains what types of olives are used and why, when and how the olives are harvested, the whole production process, why they aren’t part of the organic program and most interesting to me was what makes their small farm so unique and so important to support. We purchased their home made olive oil soap and are anticipating the mid December arrival of our pre-ordered oils. To taste the difference in the oil is proof that this family are masters of their craft and we will be repeat customers as are so many others.

Wine Tasting at Fattoria Betti EVERY FRIDAY: tour of the vineyards, visit to the cellar, wine tasting and small buffet. The cellar was founded at the beginning of 1900 in Montalbano, a small territory in the Tuscany region that holds, still intact, all the noble characters of these ancient lands: romantic parish churches and small medieval villages with their towers, extended olive groves and vineyards, dotted by solitary cypresses, elegant and magnificent Medici villas close to laborious farmlands, in the waft of Leonardo da Vinci discrete genius. The vineyards of Fattoria Betti are grown on clay soil, located 150-200 metres above sea level. Mostly the vineyards are planted to Sangiovese, Cabernet, Trebbiano, Canaiolo Nero and Merlot. They are cultivated using the cordon and the Tuscan single-arched cane systems, and processed through partial grassing and organic fertilizers. Once optimum ripeness is achieved, all grapes are hand harvested and meticulously sorted. Our wines are the result of a deep passion and pride for our splendid territory. We combine modern technologies with the ancient art of winemaking, taking particular care to express regional fruit characteristics with the subtle use of oak. OUR AIM IS STRAIGHTFORWARD: To produce a limited number of bottles applying the greatest possible care and constantly improving, year by year.
