Karatau State Nature Reserve is located in the Central part of the Karatau ridge, which It is a branch of the northwestern arches of the Tien Shan in the territory of the South Kazakhstan region. The slopes of the ridge are dissected by deep valleys of numerous rivers and temporary streams with seasonal surface runoff almost everywhere.
The territory of the Sairam-Ugam State National Natural Park occupies a northeastern position in the system of the Western Tien Shan and is represented by the Ugam, Karzhantau and Boraldaytau massifs, as well as the northwestern spurs of the Talas Alatau. The Ugam, Sairamsu, Kaskasu, Bourgoulyuk, Badam, Mashat and Kokbulak rivers flow through the park.

There are seven natural zones in the park, from the steppe at the foot of the mountains to the high mountain.
