Great family friendly area to go hiking around. Be careful as elevation changes and roots are more exposed and rocks. Was a really nice hike and we enjoyed it.

Cascade Hollow Distilling Co., Home of George Dickel

One of the best unexpected tours of all time! While visiting some dear friends from Tennessee, we got to go on a tour of the George Dickel distillery in Tullahoma and were flattened to see where they are in 2020. Recently profoundly influenced by great modern bourbon, scotch, and Tennessee whisk(e)y, I came across a bottle of George Dickel Bottled In Bond. My taste buds have grown an affinity for single malt scotch, notably Balvenie, Oban, Bowmore, and Bruichladdich. Upon receiving a Tullahoma tour from the wonderful, lovable, and incredibly SMART Tori, I’m not quite sure my like for scotch will ever be the same again. We got to tour the late 1950s version of the Cascade Hollow distillery and couldn’t help but fall in love with the “other” Tennessee distillery! From the amazing tour of Miss Tori (Culinary Institute of America grad), we learned about George Dickel and the people of Tullahoma and the recent influence of GD’s newest head distiller Nichole Austin. At the conclusion of the distillery tour, we got to sample several of George Dickel’s current creations including their Barrel Select and the mythical Bottled In Bond. As the magnificent Miss Tori held court, we came to the unmistakable conclusion that this is not the inferior George Dickel of old. If you love great modern American bourbon Tennessee and Lincoln County Process style, make sure you consider the modern Nichole Austin (and Tori!) influenced George Dickel!

Visited the Short Springs State Natural Area and hiked Machine Falls Loop. This came out to a 5.3 mile hike over 4:30 hours and a multitude of elevations and billy goat trails. The weather was great, and there were very few people out today so it was very quiet. In addition to Machine Falls, I also did the Laurel Bluff (my favorite, so serene) and Adams Falls (challenged my stamina) Loops. Time to plan for the next hike!!!

Rutledge Falls

Reviewed By jbwhitehouse - Dallas, United States

These very special and delightful falls are on private property and accessible due to the kindness of the property owners. Thank you to them for making this very special place available to the general public...and at no cost. The hike to the falls is short and not difficult as long as you are steady on your feet. It is well worth the small bit of effort as the falls are truly special. Grand and glorious to see and listen to. Note the fall tributaries on either side of the grand falls.
