We went up here for a weekend and went on the trails with our 4x4s. The trails were great and well-maintained. Some were hard, some were easy. Some marked easy were actually difficult. The maps we had were not that great for the trails. This was the first off roading experience we had in a National Forest. We went down many of the off roading trails. We found campgrounds, picnic areas, people fishing, groups of jeeps. We even found some people who gave us a better map to use for the trails. Friendly folks on these trails. We all just wanted to have fun. We parked at the Badin Lake area and had our picnic. We used the facilities there and they were what you would expect for a forest. Some bugs. We used the grill to cook the hamburgers and hot dogs on and it worked perfectly. No issues. Afterwards we took several photos of the lake and surrounding area. It was a ton of fun going here to Uwharrie and I am sure we will be back for more fun and trails in the future!

I try to get to this range about once a week. It is one of the few outdoor ranges within the greater Charlotte area. After a couple miles journey down dirt roads, you will be pleasantly surprised by the quality of the range when you get there. Both rifle, and pistol ranges have covered benches on concrete slab, with good backstops and rubber chips. And for only $5 a day or $40 per year. The range officer, Rick, is friendly and professional. He's always good at being conscientious of when people need to go down range. If the range is slow, he keeps an eye out for when someone is ready to go down, if not he lets you shoot until someone is. If it is busy, he calls hot and cold about every 15 minutes. He maintains a safe range, enforcing the rules that matter, and keeping a relaxed presence. Rick is a good guy to talk to and he does not have a superiority complex like you might find in some RSO's. I have watched a handful of people argue with the range officer over rules or their actions. In my experience, he has always been fair and only become less than kind when the person continues to be unreasonable and unsafe. But every range has those type of people, and if you can't be responsible and accountable for yourself, you should not be there. -Nick
