What to do and see in Trentino Dolomites, Trentino-Alto Adige: The Best Lessons & Workshops

August 16, 2021 Vergie Nakamoto

Famed for winter skiing and summer hiking and climbing opportunities, the Dolomites are a section of the Alps in northeastern Italy, running roughly from Pieve di Cadore in the east to the Adige River in the west. Marmolada, just east of Trento, is the highest peak, at nearly 11,000 feet. The dramatic and craggy mountains are famed for their unique colors, which are the result of their partial formations as undersea coral colonies before being pushed upward millions of years ago.

Just home from a weeks skiing in Folgarida. Our party of 17 (varying from self proclaimed expert to complete beginners) stayed at a local hotel and had organised 2 hours tuition for everyone each day. The staff at the ski school were first class. Sebastiano, Mateo, and Wayne were all brilliant instructors (our group was split into 3 to keep the classes relevant according to skill level) and were great fun to spend time with. I personally was instructed by Sebastiano who was truly fantastic at explaining more advanced techniques as well as refining the basics and teaching proper safety on the slopes, all while making the experience fun and engaging. The casual and light hearted award ceremony on the last day involving all 3 groups together was a nice touch also. While the great weather conditions and Folgarida itself were always going to make the holiday a memorable one, every person in our group commented on how enjoyable the ski school experience had been. Already looking to organise a return visit to Folgarida soon and will definitely be signing up for lessons with Scuola Italiana Sci again.

Our two young kids (6 and 3) were skiing for the first time. We enrolled the older one in a group class while the little one started with a private lesson and later joined a group. They have a nice and easy private run where very small children can start skiing safely but after the first day the older one was already tackling the blue slopes with confidence. The teachers are competent and extremely good with children, their patience is unbelievable, they look after the kids very well ensuring that they are always safe, warm and protected from the sun. On the last day even the little one was able to do a full blue run. My kids can be quite grumpy when they start something new but this time at the end of every lesson they were asking for more. Super recommended. We also rent skis and boots from them and they were in an good condition and quite new models. Skis and boots for the small one were given to us almost free because, they said, she was too cute :)

Had an extremely good ski instructor he progressed us and pushed us to fulfil our potential. He was a kind and funny person who really made a connection with everyone in the group, although we only knew him for a few days he felt like our new friend and a part of our group. His name is Francisco, if you are thinking about skiing in the area ask for him, he is the best out there. We started off on nursery slopes on our first day and by the end of our trip we had tried one black slope which was an amazing achievement for beginners like ourselves. Such a likeable person and more importantly a talented instructor, my friends and I will definitely return in years to come .
