Transylvania is a historical region in today's central Romania. Bound on the east and south by its natural borders, the Carpathian mountain range, historical Transylvania extended westward to the Apuseni Mountains. Brasov is one of the most beautiful cities in Romania, with plenty of historical monuments and natural attractions, many excellent restaurants and offering good accommodations as well. I recommend asking at a hotel reception for the simplified map of the Old Center and have a walk along the fortifications. The central City Square (or Piata Sfatului in Romanian) is an amazing large plaza from where one can see a bit of everything: the Tampa peak with its huge, white name of the city above, the Black Church and the historic layout of business surrounding the place.

Very beautiful old city well preserved. We enjoyed our walk there with many medeval buildings. Many cafes and restaurants also, especially during summer season, on February, our last visit, many of them were closed.

The history of this village dates back to the 12th century by the Saxons, because of its relative isolation has been well preserved. There are no paved roads in the main area and it is best to wear walking shoes as the cobbles are uneven, dogs and geese roam freely and the locals use a horse and cart. The homes are painted in a variety of colours. In the last couple of years a community program for rediscovery and revival of ancient traditions such as organic farming , the skills of the blacksmith hand knitting using the local pure wool are encouraged. There is the opportunity to purchase some of the products.

It is a long street nice to walk on between Avram Iancu Square and Unirii Square. It is animated in the evening.
