My wife and I booked a tour to Sintra with Vasco. He picked us up at our hotel and explained the history of Lisbon and Sintra along the way. Vasco was very flexible with what we wanted to see and even took us to LX factory and TimeOut food hall were we had lunch and beers. I would highly recommend the guys at Your Local Tours and would definitely book them again next time we visit Lisbon especially since I’ve read that the wine tour is top-notch.

In 1807 Napoleon sent his armies to invade Portugal as punishment for the country not having joined his Continental Blockade. With the English help, a joint force of British and Portuguese commanded by the future Duke of Wellington was created to tackle the situation. Anticipating the third and last invasion the duke built two impregnable defensive lines north of Lisbon, fortifying all the surrounding hills. In this tour we will visit three of the main forts of the Torres Vedras Defensive Lines which connect the Tagus to the Atlantic: the Alhandra Memorial Fort, the Zambujal Fort in Mafra and the Torres Vedras Castle Fort. In Mafra we'll visit the magnificent baroque complex Palace/Convent/Basilica, built with the large amounts of gold brought from Brazil. On this trip we will talk about the history of this period and the importance of the influence of French revolutionary ideas on the future of Portugal. A highlight of the tour is the beautiful scenery of the places we will visit.
Inclusions: Transport by air-conditioned minivan, Hotel pickup and drop-off
Exclusions: Meals, Mafra Palace ticket
Henrique was our guide for a delightful day designed around our specific interests and temporarily limited mobility. We visited Estoril ( where we learned "Casablanca" was filmed), Cascais, a mountain viewpoint in the Serra da Sintra National Park with spectacular views of the coastline, Sintra itself but briefly because of the crowds, and on the way home, the Queluz Palace. Our day was all the more interesting because with his extensive knowledge of Portuguese history Henrique was able to put everything we saw into a more comprehensive context. Regrettably we don't know Portuguese so his facility with foreign languages was a vital contributor to our enjoyment. The day was also a wonderful eating experience because of Henrique's familiarity with the region, including a morning espresso and traditional pastry at Cascais and delicious lunch at at a restaurant where we are pretty sure the other guests were entirely Portuguese. Without hesitation we thoroughly recommend taking tours with Henrique!

I joined the Street Art Tour of Lisbon with João yesterday and cannot recommend it enough! Learning about the street art in Lisbon with this guided tour not only gives an insight into a distinct street art scene there, but also gives one a chance to see this beautiful city in a new way. João is very knowledgeable and engaging guide, he shared with us so many interesting facts, observations and intricate details. I didn't realise how 3 hours were over. It was definitely one of the biggest highlights of the visit to Lisbon!!
Near the sea, up to the mountain range that extends through the Montejunto-Estrela system, we planted our white grape vines. This is an especially cool region, with moderate temperatures, mild summers and permanent ocean breezes.

Our visit to Quinta do Sanguinhal winery was everything we asked for and more. The winery itself is well preserved, still functioning and lovely to see. The vineyards are beautiful, as are the surrounding gardens. It truly is stunning. They hold weddings in the grounds and I can tell they are really something special. Our guide was Ana. She was friendly, engaging and very knowledgeable about her family business. I really feel that we learnt a lot on the tour. Once we moved onto the tastings, Katarina joined us to help Ana with the wine tastings. The wines were all of a high standard and the guides did a great job explaining them and giving some extra history. We all really enjoyed our experience. I would not hesitate to recommend this tour to anyone.
Our reds are born in a more continental terroir, in vineyards sheltered by the mountain range, where the climate provides greater thermal amplitudes, hotter summers and earlier maturities. It is precisely there that we make our red grape varieties evolve, also an expression of freshness and minerality, always with great elegance.
Inclusions: Touriga Nacional, Pinot Noir, Petit Verdot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, Workshop about the Viticultural process
