Torre del Mar sits between the Mediterranean Sea and the Sierra Nevada mountains, making for spectacular views. Compared to much of the Costa del Sol, it has managed to retain a great deal of its authentic Spanish atmosphere, despite an increase in tourism. A long promenade along the water has clubs, excellent seafood restaurants, cafes and more, and the wide sandy beach is superb. The town is connected by tram to Velez-Malaga, which is worth visiting for its historic beauty and charm.

We come here often during our 3 month stay in the area. In the past I have walked to Caleta and back, stopping along the way to admire the well groomed beach and beautiful scenery of the mountain backdrop. Places for children and adults to exercise, lending book kiosks along the way, lots of drinking fountains and public toilets as well as chiringuitos and restaurants.

The house of Larios dates from 1888 and also forms part of the sugar factory complex. It was used to house the offices of the personnel and the Factory engineer's house.

This is the castle-fort wich is the original centre of what is now Torre del Mar. This coastal bastion was once small in size and its purpose was to watch the coast and protect the boats that docked in the natural port. Over time the fortification got further from the sea due to the progession of the ground.
