The Whisky Castle has been selling the finest malt whiskies of Scotland from its premises in the quaint village of Tomintoul for over 100 years. It is located at the gateway to Scotland's Malt Whisky Trail. Tomintoul is the highest village in the Highlands of Scotland and The Whisky Castle is the highest whisky shop in the UK. Your hosts Sam and Scott, along with their team Maureen, Kirstin and Lauren would be delighted to welcome you to sample some of the finest Scottish malts and gins Scotland has to offer. We have over 500 malt whiskies with many being single cask, independently bottled and from small batches. We provide a unique tasting experience from a fantastic selection of products allowing us to match a malt to your palette and budget. Our single malts are personally selected by us with many being non-chill filtered so you are assured of some of the most unique drams from across Scotland including limited and rare collectables. We also stock some whiskies from distilleries that have closed and also those that have been demolished and lost forever! We also offer lager, beers, wine, champagne, vodka, gin, port, brandy, sherry and many Scottish liqueurs. There is an extensive gift shop and 18 seater café in our Highland Market serving hot food all day. We offer a full range of Scottish gifts, toys, unique jewellery and country clothing to suit all tastes. When you get the chance to visit us you will be given a traditional warm Scottish welcome and if you are looking for something extra special that we don't have in stock we offer a sourcing service and we can have your item shipped direct to your door. All of our products can be bought online. We love reaching out and spreading the word about the fabulous Malt Whiskies of Scotland in their natural state where there is no added caramel for colouring and whiskies have not been chill-filtered for clarity and/or diminished in flavour for consistency.
We visited the Whisky Castle twice during our weeks holiday. On both occasions we had very friendly service and great advice. The service was relaxed and informative making the experience really enjoyable, so much so we bought lots, having tasted before we bought. As I write this review, Corona virus is gripping the world and all the distilleries were closing. A visit to this great shop more than made up for it.

I asked about renting 5 bikes on their facebook messenger page and was immediately informed by Karen that they were looking forward to seeing us. Barry, her partner is friendly, informative and great bike technician who can look after all ages and abilities. We paid 18gbp for an adult and 10gbp for under 16 year olds for half day hire which was good value when you consider the time, money and effort put into the complex. It's also refreshing to see child and adult prices and not one price for all ages (give or take 15%) seen in other activities around the Highlands ie. Landmark who are jumping on the Alton Towers bandwagon. The cafe is also well run and offers great food and drinks.
