This Mayan site is known for its 25 intricately carved stelae, including a figure wearing a large headdress ("Big Hat").
We took a ship tour with a ferry to the mainland from Harvest Caye and then one hour by bus. The guides, Nate and Felix, descendants of the Mayans, were very knowledgeable and told us lots on the way. The drive was easy with little traffic. Felix told us the people use BMWs (Better Me Walk). Beautiful jungle paths through the site and a museum showing artifacts from the site.

Akeem Williams, Cultural Experience Belize, brought us to Blue Creek, to meet Yona (at her Mayan restaurant) and Vince Ical to guide us on a hike and then a swim through the cave on Blue Creek, to a waterfall. We turned off our headlamps and experience total darkness. After the hike and cave swim, we headed back to Vince & Yona's place where Yona taught us how to grind roasted cacao beans into chocolate, shape and grill corn tortillas, and fed us a scrumptious traditional lunch. We purchased some of Yona's freshly made chocolate bars and are still enjoying them ... best chocolate ever! Akeem then took us to a Mayan ruin and shared more storied about local history, culture, peoples, and traditions.
