What to do and see in Timisoara, Transylvania: The Best Multi-day Tours

February 26, 2022 Rosalyn Ihle

Charming Timisoara is often referred to as “Little Vienna,” and indeed, Austrian influences are evident in the architecture, food and culture. This is a walking city, divided into squares that showcase stunning architectural gems. Downtown is reserved for pedestrians only, and the best time to visit is at twilight, when you can sip a hot wine as you stroll amid sparkling lights.

We recently spent three days / two nights on a privately guided tour of Transylvania. Bucharest is a lovely city, but there's a great deal more to see in Romania, and we were delighted with the Transylvania excursion organized by Authentic Romania Travel. Our guide and driver, Emanuel Balaban, is extraordinarily well informed. In addition to the scheduled points-of-interest on the tour, he added some stops that were oriented towards some of our interests, but was able to organize everything in a way that did not disrupt the timing of the original schedule. The pick-up at our hotel and drop-off at the airport made for very easy travel, and the background information added by Emanuel made for a very informative trip. We are planning on returning to Bucharest for the Enescu Festival, with the add-on of a trip to Moldavia, and we would happily book Authentic Romania Travel and Emanuel again.

Later we head back towards the place where we parked our car and then make a short stop at the Caras Citadel to enjoy a splendid view over the entire Caras Gorges. We had a great time with our tour guide, Paul!! My boyfriend and I were vaccinated and decided to spend 4 days in Bucharest. We took this tour on a Sunday and due to the Covid season all the locations we visited were pretty clear. I was very appreciative that we didn't have to fight with crowds or long lines to enter the castles. This tour takes you to all the main castles/places in 12 hours. I chose this tour over the other ones offered on Tripadvisor since it gave us a good amount of time at each spot. I liked that we didn't feel rushed & got to really soak everything in. Yes, it seems long but I swear it goes by quick. Expect to walk a lot & definitely pack some easy to eat snacks. Also, don't forget like I did --- PACK COFFEE! The tour starts early and if you're not a morning person, coffee is a must. No more hesitating and just book it. Great price for a quality tour.

We did this Balkans tour in November last year (2019). It's great that this Tour Company only books small numbers on these tours - there were only 5 of us in the mini van so it was very comfortable. Alex was our guide. He was excellent - very informative, attentive, and you could tell he genuinely wanted to do anything possible to ensure we all got the most out of our trip. He was also open to itinerary changes that suited our group, which meant that even though it was a group tour it still felt very personliased and flexible. We loved all the countries and sites we got to visit. You can tell this Tour Company has spent a lot of time making sure the itinerary is interesting, and that their customers get to see as much as possible in a short amount of time. The hotels have also been carefully selected - they were all in central locations and high quality hotels. Overall this was an excellent tour - great communication leading up to the trip, an excellent guide, fantastic itinerary and hotels, and very good value for money. We would highly recommend Guided Europe Tours to anyone interested in visiting the Bulkans.
