Thrissur is regarded as the cultural capital of Kerala, a beautiful coastal region of southwest India with a history deeply rooted in the spice trade. For an exercise in absolute serenity, schedule an overnight houseboat tour of the local backwaters. If you’re lucky enough to visit during the temple festival of Pooram, you’ll experience lively music performances, fireworks, shadow puppet shows and processionals of beautifully adorned elephants.

If you need to 'do' something in order to enjoy, stay away. This is a pure 'be' place. About 6 kms from Athirapilly water falls, another 'be' place, Vazhachal rapids change into waterfalls during the monsoon, due to the rocks on which the water roars in its inability to be still. Yet, this very fact and the excellent way that Vazhachal is managed, without anything to do except park the car and walk down, provides visitors with the opportunity to be, just be and experience movement. Conversations take a back seat as the roaring river drowns most sounds. Beware of monkeys waiting for a quick bite from the hands of the unwary and beware of wild elephants on this road. Stop at Chappa falls on the way back to be able to distinguish furious roars from mighty roars. They are much more than beautiful or powerful. Go there, and just be.

This beach is very clean no restaurants but there is a lady who prepares food for the local fishermen. If you want to have a romantic walk with no hassle from locals this is the place to be. No life guard, so if you want to take dip, you are own your own may the fishermen in the area could help. This beach is good for foreign tourists.
