Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks

Reviewed By Zalgariath - Sydney, Australia

Our first but hopefully not last visit to California was looking up all the time. This was the first National Park on our 3 week, 4,500-mile drive and wow, what a way to kick off. Being late Spring it was pretty quiet from a tourist point of view which was perfect. We only had an afternoon so just did the Generals Highway from Three Rivers to General Sherman but it was still worth it. Some of the side roads were still closed for snow and in a month you could spend ages here exploring but we were well satisfied doing the compact version.

First thing, if you are touring grab your Annual "America the Beautiful" National Parks pass. It will save you a tonne of money if you are spending more than 3 or 4 days in Federal Parks. Even on our trip, I think we used in a dozen times and saved hundreds of dollars, not to mention skipping the line up at some booth entries. We grabbed ours from the Ranger at the entrance booth.

You'll need patience and nerves to drive Generals Highway but there are plenty of scenic views to stop at and everywhere you look is a spectacular vista. I can imagine it is packed in Summer, and we only scratched the surface but you HAVE to come experience this place and the Giant Redwoods. General Sherman is a sight to behold.

This was our 2nd most favorite trail of 40 miles hiked on 17 different trails. It had seven stream crossings (most on bridges), big boulders, and an awesome waterfall at the end. The picture shown on Trip Advisor is just the base of the falls which extends much higher. You can walk right up to the falls at the base.

There are not many choices for breakfast in Three Rivers (especially on a Sunday when the Riverview Restaurant only offers a $25 brunch!). Sadly, this was not a particularly good choice - there are very few choices here. The fruit was ok, but potatoes were not cooked, and the breakfast sandwiches looked sketchy. Recommend buying a box of cereal & milk & fruit.

Marie is the best. She knows exactly what she's doing and she's very strong. Don't worry if you like it softer she can do that as well. I really didn't expect to have such a wonderful Spa experience for a reasonable price to make it even better. I can't wait to return for a seaweed wrap and another 90 min massage.

Wild Cave Tours

Reviewed By mirdonamy - Glendale, California

The Crystal Caves are beautiful, but seeing them from the depths of the tunnels and caverns is something so unique and amazing that I can't even put into words.

The Wild Cave Tour includes 2 guides and caving supplies (helmets, lights, pads and gloves). The guides are informative, fun and add a lot to the experience! They teach you about the caves, formations, how to maneuver through the tunnels and crevasses; and, they even carry your disposable camera for you so you can focus on getting around.

My boyfriend & I have never done anything like this before. The requirements are strict, and you MUST meet them (size, strength, agility, etc.). You should be somewhat fearless and have a great sense of adventure. You will really enjoy this experience more if you do!

Every pathway and room has a story, and the guides will answer questions and share their knowledge with you. Carey & Sarah were our guides, and they were awesome people!

The cave tour lasts about 4 to 5 hours with a break for rest, food and other needs. You will get very dusty, dirty and somewhat muddy. Girls: wear a tank top, tee shirt and sweatshirt or fleece. You could also wear a skin tight long sleeve shirt and sweatshirt or fleece. Keep your body warm. You won't get too hot in there! Guys: wear a long sleeve shirt and a fleece. Wear jeans you don't care about (the tighter the better - you don't want to get dirt up or down them if you can help it, plus you will have to put knee pads over them).

Bring plenty of water for the break and walk back up to the parking lot. Bring a flash light for the walk back up too. You can store your items in the cave entrance area. Bring a nicer camera (if you want) for the before and after photos, but only bring a disposable camera for the tour itself (it will get full of dirt). Ask your tour guides to wipe the lens or blow in it to clear the dust before taking pix of you. My camera had dust all over the lens and some pix didn't show up. I didn't realize this at the time we were crawling around.

Most of all, have fun! This is a truly unique and wonderful experience!

Three Rivers Brewing

Reviewed By MHRWHITE - Visalia, California

My husband and I decided to take a half hour or so drive to check out this local gem and we weren't disappointed. The staff are lovely and importantly the beer is good too. The beer garden is quirky and eclectic and is suitable on cold and warm days along with there being plenty of things to keep the little ones (both human and furry) occupied. There is a limited food/snack selection but it's house made, yummy and reasonably priced.
I'm looking forward to returning.
