Ouvrage Hackenberg

Great fortifications, large underground complex, bring warm clothing and boots, only 10-12c degrees at the lower levels. Excellent guided tours in the afternoon only, by unpaid volunteers. The tours take 2.5 to 3 hours. Group size 37 persons. Tours in English language at 14:15, and 14:30 in German only. Other times tours in French language only. Check their website. Underground electric train trip included. The guides are not paid, so consider leaving a decent tip. Great piece of military and technical history, the ouvrage was completed 1936, and taken over by the German troops in 1940, and the US army in 1944.

presented as a museum, an interesting but not very lively visit unlike Hussigny's mines where they offer an insight of a miner's life, set the machines in motion, let you experience obscurity and feel the hardships of the job. The guides are all former miners and know what they speak about. The number of visits are limited as they organize them on their free time, out of passion and for the sake of memory.

Fort de Guentrange

Reviewed By photosight - Luxembourg

This fort was built before the Maginot line and was incorporated into the Maginot fortifications, and so uprated and strengthened to meet the standards of the day.
You can visit the interior on certain days where a local guide (French speaking only) will show you around the huge interiors; this normally takes around 1.5 hours.
The outside and whole hill top can be explored with care as there are still open trenches and lots of old barbed wire around. Take care. Leave your car at the bottom by the old barracks as the road can be closed at any time.
A very interesting and evocative place that cost huge amounts of money and never saw action.
No facilities are available on site.

Looking for a nice day trip, i have decided to visit this town. To get an overview, the tourist info sgould have been the first point to visit - if youll find it. The Info moved and all street sings will lead you to the old one. This costs time. Finally at the tourist we good good information and free maps. The town though is really small, all main sight seeing points are reachable in minutes and you are finished within half an hour because everything is closed. Drank a come at the main place in town, went straight for the car and left again heading to fort hackenberg, which got a 5 stars! I can check this on my list - things before ill die and never come back!

Beautiful exposition that sends you back in time. Students and under 26 get in for free which is really nice. Everyone over that pays 3,5 euros which is cheap for this kind of exposition. Very nice trip through time and very nice staff.

Lazer Five

Reviewed By Mireille0 - Thionville, France

Reviewed By gerdom59 - Paris, France
