Amsterdam has been a beer-loving city since the 12th century. Back then, drinking beer was as normal as drinking water. In fact, the water was so polluted that everyone drank beer — even the children. The Dutch traveled far and wide, bringing wheat and rye from Germany, where they learned how to brew beer. After a long investigation revealed a scandal amongst the big breweries of Amsterdam, small breweries started to pop up, growing and expanding within the city. In turn, this led to the growth of Amsterdam's craft beer culture, where more and more people were interested in local beers made by local people. When you join our Amsterdam: Secret Beer Tour, you'll visit and get to know two of these small breweries.

A marvelous tour in Amsterdam to see the inner city from a boat whilst enjoying good food and decent wines, being serviced by friendly and welcoming hosts. The tour is roughly three hours long with two short stops to take starters and the main course/desert on board from a restaurant. It started with a fresh aperitif and an amuse gueule. The wine selection was small, but well selected to go with the menu. We enjoyed sitting on the rear deck in between the menu dishes and sip a glass of wine. As we traveled during the Corona pandemic, it was good to see that they took precaution on keeping tables apart from each other. The whole ship was very clean and tidy. Hence a tourist attraction that was safe and enjoyable. Stay healthy.

We will be touring some parts of Amsterdam and make stops for local craft beers. Please note - We are not going to local bars who serve local beers, that is too easy. We are going to local breweries who have their own bars, where you can select among their selection of own beers and get the best advice from the brewers. This is why we cover a little bit of distance. During the tour we will discuss Amsterdam, its rich history, culture, music, food, atmosphere and focus on interesting stories and craft beers. If you want to experience Amsterdam's vibrant craft beer scene, please join us! Good to know - our tours are conducted with local guides who would be more than happy to assist you with planning the rest of your trip. We have recommendations for just about everything :) Important note: we will go to 3 breweries using public transports, the tour includes one beer in each brewery but does not include public transportation costs.

Inclusions: A total of 3 of Amsterdam's finest craft beers (1 beer per visited brewery)

Exclusions: Public transportation

We went on a private tour with Asaf for a day and enjoyed it very much. His knowledge of Amsterdam was excellent and he helped us out on the trains etc which we had no idea how to cope with. He brought us to all our sites that we wanted and on the way explained about the various places of interest. We probable would not have been able to do it alone at all, let alone in a day. He also took into account our age [over 60] and led us on foot at a reasonable speed. And didn't talk too fast either. We recommend highly.

a very nice guide Daan revealed the amazing food history of Haarlem from big market squares to small alleys and hidden inner gardens. Haarlem is a very old gorgeous city close to the sea and this native Dutch guide knows all about its history, especially in relation to food and drinks. The city has for example a canal which was specially dug to allow fresh, clean water from the dunes to enter the city where over 200 breweries turned it into beer!!! Hence Brouwersgracht (brewerycanal). There are so many details related to food in building ornaments, streetnames and statues which we wouldn´t have noticed if Daan hadn´t so pasionately told us about it. We got to eat and drink in many different places while geting in touch with the roots of Dutch food. We could do this all week long!!
