Goose Island State Park

A recommended bird sanctuary in Texas.

This was my first experience parking my 25' Class C on a beach. It appeared that there are hard pads between the picnic table shelters that are now covered with sand, but I pulled up in front of our shelter parallel to the water where it was noisy hard packed. Two reasons... Best view of the bay from inside the camper, and my power cord wasn't long enough to reach the outlet in the shelter on the passenger side. Enjoyed walking the beach, the fishing pier, and the wooded campground. Don't miss the pelicans at the fish cleaning station... What a hoot! Great park. Very relaxing.

Lake Texana State Park

We spent a few days at Lake Texana Park during the week of Halloween. We experienced one of the neatest camping trips this year. They had an outdoor movie (Hocus Pocus) on Saturday and the whole park was decorated for the Spooktacular carnival. Most campers decorated their sites in the holiday spirit. Campsites at Texana are always neat and restrooms are always clean. We counted at least two Boy Scout troops enjoying the park also. The hiking trails are well kept and the kids playground is very nice. Wifi is also provided and there are kayaks for rent. Texana is our go-to park since it's close to home. Excellent park!!

Resaca de la Palma State Park

We spent about 4 hours here at the park and it was great. We got there shortly after the tram that drives along paved paths through the park had left the visitor center so we headed out to walk the same path. if memory serves it was about 3 miles but easy enough to do on paved road. We wanted to try some of the dirt paths that head out from various places along the road but due to a recent storm paths were very muddy and the bugs were out in force. After walking the path we did take the tram ride which last about an hour and a half. how does a a three mile drive take that long you ask.... its because the park host that drove us was great. we stopped in several areas where not only birds were spotted but also explanations regarding the trees, shrubs, grasses and yes even a huge pack rat nest. stop in here, enjoy nature and then top the visit off with an ice cream bar.

Galveston Island State Park

Historic park offering camping, hiking, bird watching, biking and swimming.

I like the camping site, clean, complete with picnic table, water tap, firepit exclusive for each spot and shared shower/restroom just 150ft from the camping ground. They were fully booked, so book 1 week before going! The weather in the afternoon was warm, but the breeze was rather nice! There were lots of mosquitoes after sunset. Our handheld fan with spray and mosquito repellant were lifesavers and do use bug spray for around the table and tent. We brough some deadwood too because collecting there aren’t allowed. We also cooked, but some folks just drive for food coz restaurants are within 10min drive. Activities are plenty, we did the hike by driving to the trail and did about 1 mile hike. It was flat and no shades along hiking route and at camping ground so wearing a good sandal and good hat/sunglass a must. There were puddles you’d have to walk through so feet will be wet. We saw people crabbing and fishing on the small jetty!! The staff suggested to go to Jamaica beach and definitely lovely spot where you can just back you car few feet from the shoreline!! The drive is about 5 mins from the camping ground. We left about 10am, it was already hot which explained why we saw some people packed and left before 9am coz it got hotter so between 9am-3pm plan to go to the beach or sightseeing around Galveston. We had an awesome camping, and our kids 6/8/10 y.o truly enjoyed their 1st real camping. It’s a perfect spot to laze around.
