The Tehachapi loop is an engineering marvel. It is recognized as a National Historic Civil Engineering Landmark and a California Historical Landmark. Built in 1874-1876 it solved the problem of getting trains from the central valley up the hill to Tehachapi. To visit the Loop and See / read the historical plaques take the Keene off ramp and follow the Signs. There are up to 400 trains a day using the loop, so you probably won't have to wait long to see the trains in action as the train actually can pass over itself as it makes the loop. For train fanciers it is a must see, for engineers it is a must marvel. and for the rest of us it is a wonderful curiosity to ponder. Remember There is also a train museum in Tehachapi and the Cesar Chavez memorial is also near the Loop turn off at Keene

This was great to stop in and see on a Friday evening. Great history, photos, and displays that communicate the interesting history of the area. Trains are important to the community, and this showcases their history. Recommended for anyone, especially those with kids. The tour guide engaged my 3 children and they loved it.

The tasting area is quite small and the day we stopped in, it was quite crowded. Once we found a place to stand, we were treated very well. Limited choices of wines, and they did offer wines from other areas as well. It felt like a neighborhood bar where everyone knew each other & we were intruders. Nice gift shop; it took up a lot of room.

A trip will not be complete without a trip to the Indian point ostrich farm. The best gift shop in the area with unusual things to buy from ostrich eggs, ostrich feathers etc to antiques. Lovely place for a short visit Open most days until 4pm or 5pm depending on the season. You get a chance to feed the ostriches and see the babies too!

The Railroad Museum is on the main street of Tehachapi and is well worth the visit, but this museum is up on the side street and has the history of the town, not the railroad. This lovely building was put up in the Art Decco style and is a delight. The displays are not large, but are very professionally put together. You can see some old farm tools, some clothing displays, and learn a great deal about the native American folks who were in this area. The bathrooms were wonderfully clean and nice. We were there just about an hour (which was enough) and enjoyed it thoroughly.

Wish this trail was marked with level of easy or difficulty or have some benches along the way for us rest on. If you plan to walk up to the summit take plenty of water and wear comfortable shoes. Terraine is steep in some places but has a wide and winding track all the way. You get to see a nice view of the valley half way up the summit. If you are feeling tired by this stage have a break and then carry on as it gets steeper later on. If it's too much this half way point is a good view but the summit says you made it and a you get to see the view from a higher elevation. Saw people walking on the trail with dogs wish they had them in a lead as some of us are scared of dogs.

We enjoyed a Friday Night at the vineyard. They had a soloist, catered dinner on the patio. We had a bottle of red wine, relaxed and enjoyed the music, view and Tehachapi breeze. They are growing, and continue to improve. It is a little overpriced, but it was a great night.

Skylark North Glider School provides the thrill of flight for novices (Granny's sleigh ride)! I could not believe I was soaring above the beautiful valley and mountains (and completely safely thanks to masterful glider pilot). This is an experience not-to-be-missed. And Skylark North is a gem - with the most friendly front desk staff and a wonderul cafe on site!

We had been hearing about the new brewery in Tehachapi. We have several wonderful local winery's, but until recently no spots to enjoy a brew that is made on the premises! So, on a hot 4th of July weekend with family visiting we gave it a try. The brewery islocated in an industrial area near the Home Depot. Tyler was on duty & helped us make our selections. He was a wonderful host who is also an outside salesman for the brewery. Very knowledgeable! I am a light weight when it comes to beer so I tried the Hefeweizen. It was very nice. Other family members tried the darker brews. The alcohol content and "bitterness" scales are on display to help with selections. No food is served except for free pretzels & some individual bags of potatoe chips. Food trucks stop by in the evenings & there is live entertainment several nights a week. My only complaint were the small fans which were pretty much useless when the temperature was 90 degrees. As the brewery gets more established they should upgrade the heating & cooling system. If you are a local or just passing through I would encourage you to support & enjoy Honey Wagon Brewing!

Tomo-Kahni was created to preserve, protect and interpret the site of a Kawaiisu Native American Village. This tour is only done as a guided tour due to the sensitive nature of the area. Everyone meets at the Tehachapi Library at 8:30 and caravans 12 miles over to the park. There is a fee of $5 for adults and $3 for children. The total time of the tour including driving time is about 4 hours.
