Tbilisi (English: /təbɪˈliːsi, təˈbɪlɪsi/ tə-bih-LEE-see, tə-BIL-ih-see; Georgian: თბილისი [tʰbilisi] ( listen)), in some countries also still named by its pre-1936 international designation Tiflis (/ˈtɪflɪs/ TIF-liss), is the capital and the largest city of Georgia, lying on the banks of the Kura River with a population of approximately 1.5 million people. Founded in the 5th century AD by Vakhtang I of Iberia, since then Tbilisi served as the capital of various Georgian kingdoms and republics. Between 1801 and 1917, then part of the Russian Empire, Tbilisi was the seat of the Imperial Viceroy, governing both Southern and Northern Caucasus.

Ghvinis Karkhana Wine Factory

Back to the history in 1894-96 in the oldest district of Tbilisi - Vera, great architect Alexander Ozerov designed and built beautiful and unique Wine Factory # 1. During many years it was closed for visitors. But in 2017 it became as a new multifunction city space for everyone. "Wine Factory" is a huge project what offers a great variety of ideas, such as flea market, open cinema, restaurants, bars and cafes, office space, culinary school - "Culinarium", show room and concept store with Georgian designers and products, fitness-space - X Body, bakery (Tone), street food location organized in 5 old wine barrels ... But Soul of Karkhana is a breathtaking ancient wine repository, in antiquity, what kept over 100 years wines and cognac from the Napoleon’s and Stalin’s collection. Ghvinis Karkhana open all over the year and ready to host the guests from 12PM to 1 AM daily.

LOCATION: The establishment is located in one of the side streets, and depending on where you approach from, it might be a bit of a climb. This can be slightly more challenging if you have a stroller with you (as was the case with me) VENUE: A reasonably sized place, divided between two floors. Be warned that accessing the upper area is by stairs, so it is very difficult to take a wheelchair / stroller upstairs. The place is not too spacious, but has enough to entertain you for a couple of hours. ACTIVITIES: There are many activities and illusions that one can partake. One of the better activity is the Vortex Tunnel, guaranteed to put a spin on things. There are a lot of interactive puzzles that you can participate in. Some of the miniature sized puzzles can also be bought at the reception area. PRICE: For the experience, the place is quite reasonable priced. OVERALL: Definitely worth spending a few hours to relax and challenge your mind.

Paliashvili Opera House

Reviewed By strangersblog - The Palm Beaches, United States

We bought tickets online for a ballet performance about a month in advance. We saw a ballet based on a popular children's cartoon that seems like a Georgian version of the Nutcracker. The young kids seemed to enjoy it and it was fun to see the little ballerinas twirling in the splendid rooms of the theater during intermission. Randomly, everyone joined in singing the Beatles' "All you Need is Love" at the end. The family of the great choreographer George Balanchine came from Georgia, so there is a strong ballet tradition. There was a real "wow" factor when the dancers performed part of the pas de deux from Tchaikovsky's Nutcracker, so it would have been nice to see a more serious work. We wish we had also been able to attend an opera in this magnificent building with its Moorish architectural influences. Two of the best seats in the house in a private box were the equivalent of about $50 USD. Great value for a memorable culture experience.
