Had a brilliant evening!! Cheese and wine on arrival by the river. Then we kayaked along stunning vegetation and trees into some caves to see the glow worms and on our return journey we were fortunate enough to have a full moon to light our way back in the stillness of the evening with occasional night sounds of birds! A very memorable experience.

Mount Maunganui Summit Track

Reviewed By sussan59 - Auckland Central, New Zealand

Make sure you've got good shoes on and comfortable clothing, this is a great workout, especially for the baby boomer generation. The track was very dry the day we climbed the mount, ergo it was quite slippery, and we had to watch our step going up. The views once you reach the summit are stunning. The sense of achievement feels pretty good too! Going down, we chose the steep steps which were also a challenge, and our thighs felt it the following day. Overall a great experience!

We bought ourselves a couples massage for Christmas and went to Bethlehem Thai Touch. I was so impressed walking in, it's so 'fancy', clean & welcoming - it almost teleports you to Thailand. We went on a VERY hot day, and they had the air-con going at a perfect temperature. The staff are very friendly and helpful. Everyone I saw appeared to be Thai/Asian so safe to say it's quite authentic which was fabulous. The masseuse I had was very professional and friendly and she did such a great job. My partner also loved it. This is far superior to any other massage place I've been to in NZ, probably one of the best I've been to in the whole world!! Will definitely be back and DEFINITELY recommend!!

Started in the waiting area with a relaxing mineral footbath, choosing which massage you want from the 'menu', then taken to a private room. I had the 1 hour Deep Oil Massage, medium pressure... could have stayed lying there for ever! It was wonderful, with the delightful young Thai woman expertly massaging my entire body bit by bit. All the staff were lovely and very attentive, in beautifully presented premises with great attention to detail. And what a lovely finishing touch at the end to be ushered to another room for a herbal tea and choc treat. Can't wait to go back!

Mount Hot Pools

As far back as 500BC, Hippocrates recognised the benefits of warmed seawater for its ability to rebalance and detoxify our bodies. Salt water bathing was believed to improve mobility by easing muscle and joint inflammation, and general aches and pains. Today, those healing properties remain, and it’s all right here beneath the majesty of Mauao, Mount Maunganui. Come and soak in our heated salt water pools and experience the benefits for yourself. Top it off with a massage from our friendly and experienced therapists to really treat your body.

Great facility here! Therapeutic soaking of sore and weary bodies, or use the active area for those more athletic! Water jets are great therapy and having at least one pool age restricted to 16+ gives some respite for “oldies”. If you can prove you are a true local, you can get a discounted entry fee!

This is an amazingly beautiful park with so much available to do or see. Include a visit to the McLaren Falls Cafe, just a few hundred metres inside the park, with friendly staff and lovely food and coffees. There are walks all around the edge of the lake, some more challenging ones up some of the tracks through the hills. With a gentle stroll you can walk along a track to a waterfall, which at night is lit up with thousands of glow worms. Take a kayak and kayak up the lake and/or kayak up past the power station to the awe inspiring gorge beyond, which also lights up with glow worms at night. Take your paddle board and paddle around the lake. Take a picnic, there are plenty of barbecue tables around, or Frisbees for Frisbee golf. Plenty of room for cricket games, biking etc.
