Tarapoto is a commercial hub town in the San Martín Province of the San Martín Region or northern Peru. It is an hour by plane from Lima, in the high jungle plateau to the east of what is known as the selva baja (low jungle). Although Moyobamba is the capital of the region, Tarapoto is the region's largest city and is linked to the Upper Amazon and the historic city of Yurimaguas by a relatively well-maintained transandean highway, paved in 2008-9.

Huascar Bar is a small bar with plenty of personality, located on the main bar street in Tarapoto (known as the calle de las piedras). We sell beers that most other bars in Tarapoto don't have, including Sierra Andina (a craft beer from Huaraz). We also make an excellent chilcano de pisco. The bar has a mix of regular expat and local clients. We speak English and Spanish.
Drank a nice icey cold beer, Tony came in , and then a French fellow joined us and we talked about travel and what a change Huascar was from any place in Europe. Sat around and enjoyed the friendship . stayed till midnight and left with a night full of wonderful memories...
