Named for the river that runs through its stunning landscape, the Tarangire National Park offers visitors a unique experience of Tanzania. The park is home to the country’s largest population of elephants (during the dry season you can see herds of 300 digging in the Tarangire riverbed) and also features other native wildlife such as impalas, rhinos, and hartebeest buffalo. Though safaris are a popular attraction in the area, nature-lovers will delight in experiencing such native vegetation as the baobab tree—otherwise known as the tree of life—and the park’s complex network of swamps.

My wife and I booked our honeymoon through Nyika and it was amazing!! Admittedly it was over 6 months ago and I've just been really slow to write a review. I was put in contact with Mr Musangi, who owns Nyika, under recommendation from somebody who had used Nyika in the past. Right from the very first e-mail Mr Musangi was quick to respond and did all he could to accommodate our needs. In fact he was very patient as I made many tweaks to the itinerary so we could have the perfect honeymoon. Everything about our trip was made very clear to us. We settled on a week on safari visiting four national parks (Tarangire, Lake Manyara, Ngorongoro, and the Serengeti), followed by a week relaxing in luxury in Zanzibar. We couldn't have built the itinerary ourselves, and it would have been extremely expensive if we had done it through a UK travel operator. On our arrival to Tanzania we were picked up at the airport by our guide Goodluck, subsequently told us that we would be the only couple on our safari and that Mr Musangi had wanted to do something special so had given us a large safari jeep all to ourselves (they're big enough for 6 people). This seemed like Goodluck indeed. Goodluck was a phenomenal guide with a lifetime of experience and it showed. He knew the various parks inside out, and his popularity among the other guides was clear to see. Goodluck was incredibly attentive to our needs. Rather than a morning drive followed by an evening drive as the typical daily agenda, he was more than happy to grab a packed lunch, head out in the morning, and not return until the sun was going down in the evening. We did this pretty much every day! This might not be everyone's cup of tea but it was definitely ours, and that meant we got to travel further in to the parks, see more areas that weren't overrun with other safari vehicles, and have a much better experience as a result. If we return to Tanzania on safari there is only one person I would want as a guide. At the end of our safari Mr Musangi came to meet us in our hotel, check to see that we had enjoyed our trip, and gave us some coffee to take home as a parting gift. Nice touch and good coffee. The final leg of our journey took us to Zanzibar where we were greeted by Ali Baba and Nowshat (excuse spelling). Ali Baba and Nowshat looked after us in Zanzibar City, showing us the main spots of interest before ensuring we were taken to our final accommodation for a week of luxury. I felt we stayed in some amazing accommodation without paying excessive money for it. In other words it was excellent value for money. In fact one of the lodges we stayed in on Safari (Kilimamoja Manyara Lodge) was possibly the best accommodation I've ever stayed in. Even if you can only build it in to your trip for a single night I'd recommend it. Overall a stunning trip made possible by the team at Nyika.
